So I just put together my first PC:
XP3000+ 333
ABIT NF7-S
Some Antec Case
120GB WD
1GB Corsair 2.5CAS
9600XT
DVD/CD

When I plug it into the power, everything is good, I get an LED that comes on on the mobo. Then I turn it on, fans start spinning and what not. But I get nothing on the screen, just black. I have resetted the CMOS with power turned off... I have looked on the forum for some info, and the thing I picked up from reading is that I might have cracked my CPU... I guess it's possible since I'm not an expert. Any tips or things I could try out would be really appreciated.

Are you getting any kind of beeps or post codes when you power up? Try taking out everything except the vid card and 1 stick of ram and see if you can boot to bios.
 
Does the monitor display anything at all? The video card could be unseated correctly. If not, any system beeps from the system speaker like 2Busy said?
 
Is your mem seated in the correct slot order?

I have seen video not work when mem was in slots 1&2 when it was suppost to be in slots 1&3, etc...
 
I get no beeps at startup, but I think that my mem are in slots 1 and 2, so I'm gona go check that out. I'm gona try to torubleshoot it with your ideas.

by the way, Billelee, I just get a black screen....When my monitor isn't plugged into the graphics card, i get the NO SIGNAL message, but as soon as i plug it in, it goes away.
 
I tried with 1 piece of mem and it still doesn't work, still complete black on the screen

Any ideas?

Just took everything apart including the cpu. There doesn't seem to be any cracks, but I did notice that there was a sort of purpleish or darkish stain on half of the border of the cpu's core. I hope I didn't burn anything... I don't see how it could have burned because I bought this amd chip with the amd heatsink/fan that had the amd thermal compound. Also, the heatsink was tigthly seated on top of the cpu.

No clue what that is.

try swapping the processor if you can

my friend had a similar problem

when its plugged in, black screen, when its unplugged, it said no signal

turned out to be a crappy processor
 
My monitor doesn't turn on when I turn on my computer, so i guess it's not posting. I tried booting it up with the bare minimum: 1 piece of mem in slot 1, cpu/hsf, vid card, mobo. Still nothing with that config. When I take out the vid card, and I turn it on, I get no beeps whatsoever. I haven't heard one beep yet in any of my configurations...

Also, I made sure that my monitor was plugged in correctly as well as my graphics card. I put it back in the mobo about 3 times.

I took everything apart so i'm gona start from zero again...great..hopefully it works . I don't have any thermal compund tho, and I know that the AMD warantee is voided if I use anything other than Shin Etsu. Can I find that at Fry's?

Guess next thing i'm gona try is testing it out with another processor.

While you're ripping things apart make sure to take your motherboard out of the case and check for an extra standoffs that shouldn't be there. You can get wierd stuff goin on if your've got a short between the mb and case. You can even try running it out of the case to trouble shoot. Just make sure to put it on a non-conductive surface.
 
see if it will boot ouside the case ... just worked on a dead motherboard last night ... powers up ... but no beep whatsoever ... moved all components on a known working mobo ... and boots the first time ...
 
and double check your pin connections for the speaker
even without a video card, or RAM it should beep
(actually it will beep like mad :p)
check your power connections, dismount the mobo as suggested
power up with just the CPU, Heatsink & Fan, and the speaker
try another power supply and check all the jumpers on the board
as well as making sure the CMOS battery is properly seated

thats where I start when building a system, then I add the RAM and Video Card, mouse and Keyboard, and access the BIOS, then I mount the mobo and do it again
then the rest
 
PEOPLE! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP. I figured out that I had a short from the mobo to the bottom of the case (as some of you suggested) cause when I started it up outside the case, i got beeps and I finally got into the BIOS.
