Why is the temp so high?

Ive had my current setup for about two years now. The onboard temperature sensor never worked reliably, but it always averaged out to between 42 and 44C, and would peak at 46C or so under load. About a month ago, I changed a HD and added a Radeon 9700. In an attempt to clean the dust out and get more accurate temperature readings, I reseated the heatsink. Immediatly the temperature jumped to 55C. I tried reseating the heatsink twice more, with no change. Now a month later, the temperature has steadily been creeping up. Under minimum load, its running at 65C. I'm considering replacing the volcano 7 with a new heatsink to see if that improves system temps. Any other suggestions?

What kind of thermal compund are you using? Is it an old tube you had lying around?

Maybe you got more accurate temps... you said it was never accurate

maybe thats what it always was at

you're positive the heatsink didn't get mounted backwards? (i.e. tipping the sink)? Just a thought.
