Why is Outlook 2013 not syncing changes?

I'm connecting my Outlook.com account to a couple Outlook 2013 instances I have, as well as activesync on my android. My question is, why don't changes instantly sync when I delete, move, or mark an email as read?

On my old mail server, I used IMAP idle and it instantly synced changes. This seems to not sync and force me to hit F9 to refresh.

Is the issue with Outlook 2013 or Outlook.com? My phone seems to be slightly more reliable at syncing changes but not 100%. Thanks.

If you're working with cached mode (which is default) you're actually working with local data and need to wait for the server to sync, which is anywhere from 15-60 seconds. You can disable cached mode, which gives you more of a 1:1 with the server to see if that helps. But how fast those changes sync to other devices, I don't know what to tell you.

Disable Cached Exchange Mode

On android, is the sync set to push, or on a timed basis? On Outlook 2013 (I'm assuming on desktop/laptop), what is the interval of sync? IIRC, the smallest interval is 1 minute--so you can never truly have instant sync on the desktop, there will always be a dwell. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to say?

The interval on the android device is push.

Also, in regards to the caching, that seems to only apply to exchange server, not activesync accounts through outlook.com.

Oh, on 365 when you disable caching on the clients it works like it should. Not sure how 365 is different than outlook.com.

I'd say you should still try it. It's still an Exchange server, just not local. I doubt Microsoft would be using a 3rd party mail system for their own brand ;)
