why is my lcd screen so dark when i first turn it on? like takes 30 seconds to get up to normal brightness, o btw its a viewsonic vp171b-2, its not even 2 mounths old

Does it light up gradually? Or does it just not turn on and then suddenly it lights up? It is probably an inverter probelm.

lights up gradualy, but goes full and normal within 30 seconds it stays normal when its on, it almost seems as if it does it when i have the monitor off for awhile, almost like the monitor has to "warm up" . It also had 1 dead pixel on arrival but that wouldnt have anything to do with the screen/backlight lighting up to full brightness, but on a positive note i was able to masturbate the dead pixel it out and its been gone for almost 2 weeks now :D could the monitor taking awhile to "warm up" be hurting my monitor and eventialy it will just die?

I would say it's normal. The screen on my laptop takes a little bit to get up to full brightness as well, just gradually gets brighter.

The NEC AccuSync LCD9V I use at work does the same thing; takes about 30 seconds for mine to 'warm up' and show the correct brightness. My 2005fpw at home does not do this, however.

Mabey you have it tilted a bit to far down or up? I know it has to do with the delay in brightning up, but it may not look like its going "as" bright because the degree of tilt?

Wow, you're complaining because it takes 30 seconds for your LCD to reach full brightness? It's completely normal. Some CRT's take up to 30 minutes before they reach normal operating conditions. :)
