its not actually a problem yet, but its got my mind boggling.

why is my computer so hot? i was messing with some wires behind the case and i realized the fan on the PSU is a damn blow dryer! no joke.

so anyways, i was wondering why my commputer is so hot. im using a amd 2100+ at 60*C constant. no over clocking, no tweaks, no nothing.

i have 1 fan and big heat sink on the cpu. i got 1 stock fan on my geforce 4mx440. i got 2 fans in my PSU. and i got 1 case fan.

the computer heats up the room, its not bad now because i can just open the window and cool off a little. but in the summer, i might run into a little trouble.

whats the deal? thanks
 
well besides that 60C processor is WAY WAY HOT on its own, the PSU is always hotter because it makes its own heat.
 
I'd have at least one case fan blowing into the case and another blowing out. That alone should lower your temps a few degrees. Also using some artic silver 5 thermal paste on your CPU may help you some.
 
Yeah, that is VERY hot. You might want to get some more fans.

I would look at your HSF installation before anything else. Unless you are using a total piece of crap, then you need to reseat it to get better contact with the core.
 
I suggest NOT applying any heatsink compound or re-seating your processor yet.


Start with getting an intake fan to get some cool air into the case. With your knowledge (or lack of) of computers i dont want to see you crack your processor and i'm sure you dont want to either.

If you processor is a 60C constant either...

a.) your sensors are wrong.

or

b.) your sensors are wrong.

The 2100+ is a palamino core also, so they generally run hotter than any of the other Athlon XP chips

it just comes down to start of small and then work your way up.
 
If you dont know how, ask a friend to reapply thermal paste (artic silver) between your cpu core and heatsink, make sure the heatsink is dust free and have a nice airflow inside case, it may require to rearrange psu wires and ide cables, this rearrange is not hard at all :D

id get more case fan's maybe change your heatsink so a zalaman or something around there get like 2-3 more fans 2 out 2 in would be good... but 1 in 2 out is cool as well... rounded cables also lower temps.. only like 2-3c but i mean its something right
 
Screw the thermal paste for now. I am assuming that this a a store bought PC and you didn't build it yourself? Open it up and look and make sure it's fans are turning. Get a can of compressed air ($5 at WalMart) and blow the dust out of the fans and heat sinks. You will be surprised how much a little dust can effect the cooling efficiency of a heat sink.

60C is well within the specs for an AthlonXP. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You're probably fine for now, but maybe try to get some better air flowing thru there. And DON'T try any overclocking, that proc will burn like no other.
 
Open up ur case
do u see an abundance of dust??
i had a dust issue that raised my temps by 5C

and i must agree with the others that u should definately have at least 1 exhaust and 1 intake fan circulating air

if u dont have room for fans (which i doubt) then cut ur own holes :D

actually, my cpu has over burned before. so i took it to the store and they put a coolmon heat sink and new fan for me. its been running 60*c ever since. all the fans work, also my wires are tucked away, and there's little dust. ive tried running the computer with the case open, but there is little difference.

i think i will add another fan or at least find out how many are blowing in and how many are blowing out. thanks
 
when u open up ur case, put ur finger on the HSF to see how hot it is
if its very hot, like hot enuf where u cant keep ur finger there long then that means ur HSF sux and u need another one, or u need to reseat it

if its not hot then im pretty sure its doing its job and u mite be getting false readings
 
the temperature of the room with the computer off is around 18*c. with the computer on, its around 22*c
 
As with the other suggestions, try putting your finger on the heatsink, if its too hot to keep your finger on it for 1 minute, its a piece of shit, if its not hot, its doing its job, or its not making contact with the CPU if its not even warm. You also might be getting false readings.
