why is my 3dMark05 score lower this weak?

I just finished setting up my system last week, and ran 3Dmark05 and came up with a score in the 7589 area (I had it to 8000 something too once) area for my system. I had my 3700+ running at 2.4ghz and the voltage to 1.45v.

I lost power last night due to a storm and somehow reset my CMOS, and had to change all the settings again, this time I OC'ed my processor some more to 2.6ghz and 1.5v, now when I ran 3dMark05, my score was 6246.

????

Why is my score 2400 points lower? Ive read some people saying they have 7800gtx's in SLI at 12000 or so, so 6200 seems 'right' but before I had it at the 8600 area. My GPU is OC'ed via nvidia overclocking to the numbers in my sig, as it was before.

What would/could be wrong that I'm seeing this drop in score?
The extra heat on my CPU? What settings do you run 3dmark05 at to get these scores?
I typically just left it at 'default'

Another 3DMark05 question, once you get past the first 3 video tests ( guys with guns, in the forest, and the airship/monster) and it does the CPU test, is it normal for the video quality on the CPU test to be crappy and average around 2-5fps?

What the hell am I doing wrong with my setup and what could be causing this drop in 3dmark05 scores? thanks for the help.

And should I be unsatisfied with a 6xxx score, what is an 'acceptable' score for a 7800gtx and my setup?

thanks, again

reinstall video card drivers. you are suppose to get in 8000k range. SLI doesnt give u 2x performance boost

did what you said, and I'm back up to 8271

That's pretty good for your system.

I just found out why there was a gap between the two values. I had VSync ON when i got the low number. OFF when it was in the 8k. Whenever the first video check runs (the space guys, etc) and it gets to where the armored guy is shooting the big gun (the view straight on to the fire) the video gets all choppy (as in 3-4 horizontal blocks where the action is happening)

when i have VSYNC on, that effect doesnt happen, only when its OFF

Ive read people say its good to have it on, and ive read its good to have it off too, so i dunno.

anyways i figured it out.

That's usually called "tearing". It happens when the game has such a high framerate, the monitor might be trying to output two frames at the same time, they become spliced together and you get that "horizontal block" effect where one frame ends, and another begins.

With VSync on, the output with the monitor is synced, so you never get two frames intersecting like that, so you don't see any tearing. The side effect is that framerate is going to be decreased in order to keep the sync, so it's definitely not recommended for benchmarking.
