Wow, what a fucking stupid program. CS:S gives me the error that my de_dust2.bsp differs from all the servers' versions despite the fact that I was playing it just 2 minutes ago and didn't modify anything, and doesn't explain anything past that. So now I have to spend an hour downloading the 700 megs for CS:S because the thing randomly fucking decided to corrupt my de_dust2 map, or something.

Oh, I also like how they made being killed by the bomb the equivalent of a suicide, how they fucked up the autosniper so that it's even more powerful than the awp, how they allow the bomb timer to go past the game timer, and how there are no servers in my recent servers list despite the fact that I've played a solid 70 or so. That's awesome programming.

Man, fuck Valve. I'll be damned if they're gonna get away with this level of incompetence. i.e. I'm not buying any of their shit any more.

Why didnt you delete de_dust2.bsp so you could download the map off the server? Thats if they had it enabled.

Thats exactly what I was thinking - just delete the corrupted maps off your hard disk, then you should automatically re-download them from the server.

yeah, and have to wait 5 hours as the fucker downloads at 1k/s

There was a Steam update released today so it's likely that you either didn't receive it or it required a server restart to become active on the server side.

The steam servers are too busy for me to play HL2... fuck offline mode... this sucks.

You know I for one hate what valve did to cs. They totaly fubared the game, but what you guys are complaining about I have never seen. The servers are never busy. I have never had a problem with download times. And I have never had any problems with the steam interface (besides navigating through its many sub catagories).

To the OP, why didnt you just download the one map that is having the problem. Or like others have said, delete it and have it auto download for you.

Sometimes I think you guys are just to quick to bitch about things that unforseable. Next time why not take a deep breath and understand that nothing is going to be perfect and learn how to fix the mistakes yourself (be it your fualt or not).

thats what i was just thinking, i'm sure the problem could be fixed in 5 mins if you worked on it. anyway, OP how does CS maps have anything to do with steam? CS is what is giving you problems not steam, so calm down

and how is it valves fault your map got corrupted?

valve = teh suck

in most cases people are quick to flame... until they get the problem themselves. It's one of those cases where it works great for most people, but works like crap for many people. This refers both to Steam (like the problem here) and to HL2 (with its stutter bugs, crash bugs, etc)

Viruses like to append there selves to files, may want to do a virus scan.

I don't see how this any anything to do with either steam or HL2. this is a CS:S problem, somehow a file got corrupted, may not be the users fault, but face it, thats whats wrong

i have a toothache. its caused by a root canal i just had and... wait. actually. no you know what fuck steam. its all steams fault. FUCK YOU STEAM!

Steam has its problems no doubt.. but you should have posted the problem here first. I see no reason why deleting the map file wouldn't work.

They also fucked up probably the most successful fps mod ever ,wonder how many companies can claim that.

well i honestly can't say the messed it up, i have never played either CS game. most companys don't even touch end user made mods, the only reason valve did was to make a profit

That statement is probably in the same catagory as all the girls who cry about EA ruining games when they are the lowly publisher/distributer.

If anyone ruined DoD/CS it is the CS and DoD team.

this isnt steams fault. except for maybe tehr ecent servers list. but who fuckin cares about that?!!?!

if you have cable/dsl (which you should if your playing CS:S, otherwise go snap your modem in half and tell your mommy you should get cable) then it shouold take no more than 10 seconds to download 1 map off of a server......not even that

Every single map steam downloads for me is different from the server it just downloaded from. Just one more thing I have come to enjoy from steam.

steam doesn't download the map, it downloads the game, the game itself downloads the map, why do you think this happens when you are in a game and connect and download from the server. its not steam that downloads maps

Steam downloads the official set of maps.

Do you have the latest patch? Does the server?

FUCK STEAM.

I use to enjoy playing CS 1.5, but 1.6 is a pice of shit!!!!

FUCK YOU VALVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11one

Man, I've never understood any of this Steam hate because I've never had anything but pure fun with CS and all its iterations.

Yeah, Steam is majorly buggy at times, but I love the friends feature (that is, when it's working), but otherwise, having a windowed interface for finding servers, etc. is wonderful compared to the crap we used to have to put up with in the old CS interface and I've been around since 1.3 or 1.4.

I think it's pros far outweigh its cons. Plus I loved 1.6, and had even more fun with the WC3 mod for it. Now however, I play CS:Source exclusively and am completely absorbed by that game. It's amazing, it feels almost like the original and yet looks so much better and therefore, pulls you in so much more.

I find the gameplay is excellent, although I am developing a small autosniper grudge, I'd rather be auto-sniped all day than be killed with the AWP noob cannon. Really, I guess it just suits my playing style better which is run&gun and/or strategic shooting with assault weapons. I hate camping and AWP dueling. Truely, the AWP is my most hated gun ever. I'll take my chances against an autosniper. CS Source does appear to be amazingly easy however, I find myself constantly at the top or racking up multiple kills in every round. The maps also feel imbalanced, even moreso than the original CS.

There are also map changes I don't agree with, taking away some of my favorite spots :)

Steam is a bitch, you really cant argue that. Great idea... poor execution...

With me steam works logging on , however one of the main reasons for it (ability to know if your friends are playing or not) doesnt work for me, my friends cant see me and i cant add them - bullshit.

ok i can deal with that, just play like the old CS days share the IP with each other, however for some reason CS wont load. It will get to the point right before i have to load the map and the game will freeze my computer, i cant alt+ctrl+del to get out either, im stuck and have to power it off.

so i now (because of steam errors) have to uninstall HL2 and reinstall it (which is a bitch because that game takes at least 30 min to install.

i like steam as an idea but they didnt do it right, they should have fixed these problems in the 1.6 beta not leave them for us to deal with when CS:S came out.

What is wrong with you people? Steam has absolutely nothing to do with the suicides by the bomb, bomb timer being extended out, autosnipers being more powerful, or any other issue dealing with the game itself. The guys who work on the GAME are the ones who changed that...and it isnt bad programming, the changes were intentional. You dont play Steam. Steam isnt a game, therefore it has no guns or bombs.

The only Steam issue you have is having to download a huge cache file just because of one corrupt map. That does suck. I assume nobody had a Source version of Dust2 for download? IIRC, if you stick it in the maps dir it will get used.

One more time:
Steam = content delivery system, server browser, and game launcher.
CS:S, HL2, CS 1.6, etc etc = Games.

yup. You have a problem, don't default to "omg steam is teh gay." We can blame valve for why Source isn't as good as 1.6, but it can still be fun (I still play 1.6, it's REAL cs). At least get some things straight before you go bitching about something.

Sorry, but this is a problem with all steam games for me. Steam is linked in the game much more than you give it credit for.

Anyways, I picked up CoD: UO expansion and boy is it nice playing a game where I don't have to worry about getting fragment errors. It is also nice being able to walk within 5 feet of someone and not lag like crazy. VALVE's netcode is simply some of the worse I have ever seen. Hell, I found that if I aim slightly behind someone in CS:S I do better.

dont play much do yeah? servers almost always have bandwidth limits per client, even with a huge pipe on both ends, map downloads take forever, dont want noobs w/o the maps lagging the server

DERRR

Yea the server starts to lag when you start giving away custom maps to people. I would shy away from going on servers like this and just play on official map servers.

It's far easier to get pissed and start bitching than to rationally work through the problems.

The best part of this post is how he blames Valve and Steam for his map corrupting.

LOL that is funny. I have COD UO and it was all reverse. COD was giving vgu errors and mad artifacts, as well as crashing to desktop and just freezing all together. Where CS would run flawlessly. Now My problem was do to a bad video card, wich has been replaced and now neither game gives me problems. Mabey you should take a look at your computer...since you are one of the few that are having this problem with CS.

JEEVES

netcode

a) I was banned from 1.6 for the past year and a half, so excuse me if I wasn't aware of all the changes made, your highness.
b) It's still a stupid decision, and it's still a stupid decision that was made by Valve.
