Why gaming on LCD?

Dammit that's horrible.

All I have to say is this: Game on a Hyundai L90D+ and you will NEVER go back to CRT. I was a CRT freak, even buying the FE2111SB to try and satisfy my gaming needs. Until last week, I wouldn't even consider playing a game on an LCD, till I did on the L90D+.

Never going back to CRT.

I'm seriously surprised to see someone say that. While OK in games ghosting wise (I still noticed some, but it was an acceptable level), the L90D+ looks like shit in regular use. Solid colors are not even close to uniform across the whole screen, even when sitting dead in front of the thing. These forums, and genmay and overclockersforums, all looked like total ass on the L90D+.

Honestly, my old Viewsonic G90FB (which I am now back on, the Hyundai is in the box waiting to get an RMA # from newegg and get sent back) looks better in both games and 100x better for regular use.

Maybe if you went from a shitty CRT to this thing then it would look fantastic, but going from a fairly good large flat screen CRT to an equivalent size LCD, I found it to be very disappointing.

Once the refund goes through, I'm gonna spend the extra 200$ for a Nec 2111sb-bk 22" CRT.

I went from a 21" Compaq (20.1" viewable trinitron CRT) to a Dell 2001fp. I play more games than anything else (Doom3, WCIII, Sacred, JK:Academy recently), and while the image quality is not quite as nice as the CRT (black? not likely), it's good enough that the other benefits make up for it. Those benefits being:

- The Dell weighs ~60lbs less.
- Multiple-input support on the Dell is much handier than any CRT i've ever had.
- Colors i think look far better (that could be due to the age of the Compaq).
- The Dell is super sharp, even w/ VGA input.
- Since the native res is 1600x1200, i can run games at 800x600 and not get any wacky intepolation issues.Even running at 1024x768 looks pretty good. Certainly better than any of my other smaller monitors (except the Compaq, but then, it died).
- The Dell puts out much much less heat. In AZ, that's a big deal from oh, April to October. =P

The big drawback is the brightness level across the Dell (and most LCDs). It's not uniform, but it's not as horrible as someone else posted above. I used to use flat black for my desktop, but i switched to a background image so it wouldn't annoy me every time i looked at it. =P In normal usage, unless i'm looking at large black areas (Doom 3) or a single color, i never notice it.

Beside saving space, when it play FPS as most of you do, it will have ghosting even it is a 8MS LCD mon.

Please list a LCD mon with amazing screen visual quality that doens't ghost when you play FPS?

Please feel free to add any additional info as well for why gaming on LCD

I gotta say that I've never seen any 'ghosting' either and that includes game like FIFA 2005 where the ball is moving quick. I play ALOT of ut2k4 and NEVER seen 'ghosting' on that either

Seriously, hasn't lcd screen tech come along way since the 'ghosting' days? I suppose you get what u pay for tho.....

Now putting your rig on a plasma screen is a different story again.....and not in a bad way ;) *drool*

I made the plunge and got a 2005fpw. The backlighting is unacceptable. I'm deciding whether to get a refund, exchange, buy a crt, or keep my current 17" Trinitron.

What are you looking at when seeing this? Like screensaver or no signal to moniter?

This was my experience exactly... I had my 2001FP for a few months, and went back to a 22"CRT.... A Cornerstone P1750..Its an Awsome monitor...And VERY expensive :)
But worth every penny...

I guess you can say that I had a shitty CRT (Viewsonic P90f). But I should have mentioned that for regular use, you are right, the Hyundai I cannot use. I don't use my L90D for regular use; for that, I use my Viewsonic VP201b which looks TONS better in places like the [H], and all other forums, not to mention photochopping and stuff. But the topic of the thread was a GAMING LCD, not for any other use; hence my input.

And good luck on getting that NEC FE2111SB. I am hoping you can get it from a respectable source. I picked mine up from Newegg, which is about as respectable as it can get, and I had to return it to them, due to the fact that it was actually a used one. Plus, I don't know of any manufacturer actually still producing a CRT, so there may be issues in quality being that the last CRTs on the market are extra inventory (what NEC tech support told me).

And to top it off, even if I wanted to use the L90D+ for regular everday use instead of just relegating it to gaming, it wouldn't be bad at all. As a matter of fact, the colors are uniform, backlighting is even, and contrast is excellent. Nevertheless, due to its pitfalls, I wouldn't use it for anything else but gaming.

Eh, I've been gaming on LCDs for a few years now. Started with an old Acer 15 inch, moved to a Viewsonic VX910 (loved that sucka) and now on to a Dell FP2005. I don't think I could deal with a crt at this point. Maybe I am tolderant of ghosting or others are more prone to seeing it, but I certainly don't notice it when I game.

your going to have to pry my Mitsubishi 2060u out of my cold dead hands.

unless you wanna buy it so i can get a 2070SB hehe

Bought a 2001FP. Horrible for gaming. I play BF42 and my kill ratio went way dow immediately. Picked up a 22" NEC and I'm killing Germans like a true American in 1942. By the dozens! He he he.

I love LCD's for everything else. Just not gaming.
