Why fold?

Most of the projects that I'm involved in publish results of their research. Much of this data is more building block type info, not something that's going to be a cure in and of itself. Each project lists its own collection of papers at its site. Its not always going to be glamorous and exciting, but it needs to be done. And since we're involved in over 100 different projects in some capacity, you'll have to forgive me for not compiling a complete list. :p

If you'd like to discuss/argue/dismiss the merits of a particular project or two, you would probably get answers more to your liking.

It is useful. But not the "cure" like Stanford claim and some around here believe.

Very true. Hopefully not many people around here think that at the end of the day our folding spits out a recepie for a drug. However as I understand it, much of the pharmaceutical research right now mostly involves throwing a bunch of chemicals at a drug and then see what helps. With folding at home it is hoped that those researchers can better understand what is going on to help them narrow down their tactics in fighting the diseases. It is kinda a "know your enemy" type of problem.

However, I cannot explain it any better than it can be explained on this page: http://atlasfolding.com/?page_id=42

Wow  That title "Why fold" really caught my eye big time. It reminded of the old Bill Cosby album of "Why is there air" I figure we gots to keep them leeches employed sucking the blood out of sick people to cure them or "cattle prodding" mentally ill people back to mental health. We've got to keep those in the leech farming business or the cattle prod business from "off shoring" such lucrative jobs.

On the cereal side though, I think most people, like posted above, don't think we're gonna' single handedly find the all illusive cure. I think most of us realise we're working in conjunction with the medical professionals to find a cure. That bein' said, I think ANY medical knowledge is detrimental and important, even at the cost of putting leech farmers and cattle prod factory workers outa' a job .:( :p
