Why doesn't my "scroll pad" work with remote desktop?

I frequently use my laptop (Dell, Win XP) to view my desktop(s) also running XP with remote desktop. When I'm not using RD, I can scroll by sliding up and down on the right side of my touchpad. But in RD, that doesn't work.

On the other hand, if I'm using an actual mouse, the scroll wheel works fine through remote desktop.

So why the heck doesn't the "scroll pad" work through RD? I have all the correct drivers installed.

i think because the scroll pad functionality relies on specific drivers on the laptop, it isnt built into the windows system like a wheel is.

Its just software limitations of your trackpad software.
With my mouse I can't use my forward and back buttons through VNC or RDS either

thats weird.. i thought all commands went through the computer before going to the client...
