Why doesnt my CD-ROM show in My Computer?

What does it say in device manager? I'm pretty sure this is an easy fix, but of course, I forget what to do.;)
 
Presuming you haven't changed anything, dropped the box or something like that, I only see that happen when the drive dies. Check cables, you might get lucky.
 
Are your CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives running on one IDE channel? If so, check the jumpers. I bet that is your problem. One needs to be set to "Master" and the other to "Slave". The order does not make a difference.

If you do that and your motherboard still doesn't detect the DVD-ROM drive, it's most likely that your drive has failed on you. A bleak outlook on that front, but they can be acquired for a reasonable price.

i actually somewhat of a similar problem. it did turn out my jumpers were screwy *which was odd because i hadn't touched them in months*. but now i can't burn anything.

so lame.
 
nope thats not it, i remembered when i installed my DVD rom to set it to master and my CD RW to slave. i just think my CD RW died on me, ill prob. just buy a new one. i promised a music cd mix for my gf and i havent been able to do it, :(
 
Isnt there a type of virus that makes drives dissapear? I cant go into further descriptons but I remember a virus made my floppy dissaper before...
 
are you running any virtual CD drives like dameon tools....

if so open up the settings in dameon tools and change the drive letter of the virtual drive then reboot..... the damean tools don't care if you already have a drive with a specific letter assigned it will jsut take it over for it's own settings....

had this prob recently just figured it out like last week
 
i wasent runing the dameon tools, but if i download it and try that will it work maybe? cause i spent $60 on this new Cd ROM RW and i would love to get my money back if i really dont need it. Im gonna try it, thanks.
 
no need to install dameon tools that won't fix this issuse..


try going to conrol panel admin tools to compuer management then todisck management and then if you see it there right clikc on it and change it's drive letter
