Why does using DVI make my PC freeze @ boot?

I just bought a new Acer 1917 lcd. If I connect it via the vga port to my 6800 everthing is fine. If I use the DVI connection however, my system will show the video card BIOS POST, the mobo BIOS POST, and then hang when the Windows XP "logo" should appear when the OS is booting. If I load Windows using the vga port and then connect it via DVI everything is fine, but when I restart the system will hang again right at the beginning of loading WinXP.

It's not a driver issue because Windows itself hasn't even loaded. Lots of stuff has been posted on varios message boards that Google searching will find, but as of yet I haven't found a solution (or even the problem for that matter).

Does anyone here know what I'm talking about or have any advice on what could be causing this problem and how to fix it??

Could try loading Windows with the /sos and /bootlog (systemroot\Ntbtlog.txt for the log) switches. Might give you somewhere to start looking.
