Why does my cd-rom tray not open sometimes?

Sometimes my cd-rom tray will not open when the button is pushed. I have to reboot the computer to get it to open again? Does anyone know what this could be?
 
my xbox does that, i just smack the top of it. try that. my drive is dieing, btw, when i push the button, it doesnt go back in either. lol
 
I usedc to have this problem with an older drive... was 48x, like 3 years old..

Anyway, the restart thing, if it doesn't work everytime, is probably just a fluke. What I had to do is take out drive, pop open the case, disconnect the little wires in there and pull out the gears. After that I just made sure there was no dust or anything like that on the gears and that they were well greased. Also, check the servo and the lense gears since it has to go down before tray can slide all the way out.

I guess just take it apart, do all that and mess around pulling the tray in and out.

Also, try re-installing it with the tray out all the way and then push the button to go in, then test and see if it will come out again.

If it sounds like ranting im sorry, kinda have a headache.

It could be a mechanical problem, but then it doesn't make any sense why a reboot would solve the problem. It's probably a software problem. I think software can lock the drive so that the button can't eject the tray. I know when I mount a cd under linux I can't eject it until I unmount it.
