Why does my 8800GT hate me so?

I think I must have the worst clocking 8800GT in the world. I have the vanilla version, and the best stable clocks I could get that were stable in atiTool and (most) gaming are 661 core, 1645 shader, 943 memory. Anything higher will cause eventual artifacting in atiTool. I've tested said clocks in Crysis at Very High settings (two playthroughs!), and it seemed fine.

Rest of my rig is a Q6600@ 3.6ghz on a Tuniq Tower, along with a GA-P35-DS3l mobo and 2GB of Corsair PC6400 ram.

Anyways, so I was playing a game of Supreme Commander, when all of the sudden, it crashes out on me. I assume that it's the CPU because Supcom is ridiculously CPU intensive, and I haven't been able to test my CPU for extensive periods of time in Prime95 (it hits mid 70's after a while, but it seems stable enough). I've never seen it get past 60c in a game, and it seemed pretty solid.

Lo and behold, I tried clocking my graphics card down to stock, and Supcom played fine. Turning down the CPU and leaving the graphics card overclocked would lead to more crashes, and although I suppose I could always just revert down to stock clocks for supcom, this card seems borderline defective to me. I can test it for hours on atiTool at stock though, and it doesn't find any artifacts (I'll try it for 24 hrs starting tonight). My question is: are there any other programs that could stress this card harder than atiTool? I'd love to RMA this thing and get a card that doesn't clock so unbelievably poorly, but 'poor overclocking ability' is hardly a qualification for an RMA, so I suppose I need to find if this thing is rock stable at stock or not.

Thanks in advance for any help.

how was gameplay oc vs.stock? i dont even think with my card at 700 stable i'm really getting much improvement...i'm not seeing a heat increase either so why complain in my case...

and i'm sure the answer you're going to receive here is that gameplay artifacting/crashing is much more important than receiving a crash in a benchmark/stress test prog

Its possible the PSU cant supply enough power when overclocked.

I'm fairly certain I'm getting enough power, I have a Corsair 520HX or whatever that thing is called. I get a slight performance increase OC'd (really slight, considering how poorly it clocks), and I get a fair increase in 3dmark.

I can OC way higher if I don't bother with the occasional artifact in atiTool, it's just that damn Supreme Commander that kills it every time. I can play with much higher clocks in Crysis(clocks that would artifact in atiTool), but Supreme Commander brings the damn thing to it's knees.

Maybe I'll just save for the GTX260 or something.
