Why does everyone have problems w/ 6800gt's?

I've had mine for about 2 weeks now, and have had no problems whatsoever with it *knock on wood*. Anyways, I was just wondering why? I have run Halo, farcry UT2k3, Return to castle Wolfenstine, CS:CZ, City of Heros, WoW Beta, and tribes vengence beta on it w/ no problems or hick ups what so ever*knock on wood*. I kinda want to try UT2K4, but everyone seems to have problems on it. My FX5200(PNY) ran it fine on 8x6...so shouldn't the 6800 do fine? My specs are in the sig execpt I'm not oced anymore as farcry didn't like it...Oh well...just some questions here...

Maybe because some people have a different system then you?, maybe a different Power Supply?, User error?....there is just about as many problems with Nvidia cards and Ati cards. Defictive parts.....

I dont see anywhere near as many complaints about ATi X800's as I do about 6800 series cards. Seems like the graphics options are hard for many to learn to use with the nVidia cards, plus the BS around optimized or not optimized and trying to figure out those settings. Then the whole power supply issue is rediculous, Ive seen 200 if Ive seen 1 post about how someones system is suddenly unstable after adding a 6800 series card, only to find out they have a 300 watt power supply :rolleyes:
 
More people on here own 6800's right now, which means there is a higher chance of a problem.

well, that whole power supply thing is overated in general.

people have this notion that bigger is better when it comes to PSUs and the 6800s goes when it all reality people like myself have run our GTs just fine on our measly 250W (or less) Shuttle power supply units with ZERO problems.

yeah, thats right. I said I have a 250W psu with ZERO problems running that card. (and plenty of other Shuttle owners will say the same thing...)
 
Check the polls to see how many people here run x800s and how many run 6800s...it's like 2 to 1 right now...that's why you see more complaints...more cards = more problems...
 
Maybe if there was a good supply of XTPE's going around we'd start hearing about them no? I haven't had any trouble with my gt either -- everything I've thrown at it plays great, including ut2k4 with 4xAA and 16xAF using the 61.77 drivers that shipped with my card and dx9.0c. There's always a little something between the keyboard and the monitor though :p
 
I have no issues except for in MoH:pA where I get weird lines flying across the screen... Every other game is flawless.
 
A LOT of it is attributed to user error and lack of video card knowledge in general. Read some of the help threads around here for proof of that.

I think ATI appeals a bit more to the individual who has a better than average understanding of computers, hence less problems.
 
Actually guys the X800pro is the most popular card on the market right now in terms of sales. I personally use a X800pro~XT PE modded. :D
 
I've got both an X800Pro and a 6800GT and I've had no trouble with either.

More like 4 to 1. The GTs vastly outnumber any other card on the hardforums. They probabley overtook the 9800Pros right after Doom3.

And it's good to see you're posting again empty.
 
Quality of powersupplies may not be a problem if just for the luck of the draw that you have clean main power in your area too.

If you live in an area that has less than half a dozen momentary blackouts a year or so (maybe less than 100 brownouts a year) then you never notice it. Areas with severe brownouts (more than 10 percent of the rated household current) or dirty lines sometimes inevitably showup as problems, especially with sensitive computer components.

Dell actually comissioned a study on it, done by an independant research group (don't ask me where to get it cause technically its supposed to not exist) I think the best place was someplace in Idaho for clean stable power. The worst places were all the lower Mississipi states and Florida (moisture and heat) In which case they designed all computers for shipping to the worst states to be built with *extra* voltage tolerance, rumored to be well in excess of 15 percent.

PS: A lot of Californians this year are complaining, not necessarly about the cost of electricity, but the quality of it... I'm sure a lot of electrical companies are trying to get away with supplying the absolute minimum required voltages.
