To get the most for my money....even though it cost more to run an overclocked cpu than a stock one. Hey gotta keep the bonus checks coming for edison employees.

Cause its fun, specially with cheap CPU like sempron 140. Check this out - mind you this is with stock cooling + AS5. Getting H100 on monday from newegg and ill probly hit 4ghz+.

Btw the Cpu temp is 48C prime95 and its been running 2hrs.

Pshh like I care how much power it consumes, Cpu could draw 200w for all I care lol.

Crap in my pants. Is that CPU still alive?
of course its still alive....temperature works wonders with CPU's

though temperature in the -70's C range helps me out in non-death and frequency departments

why not? and it doesn't cost that much more to run an overclocked system if you set it up correctly and use the power saving features with it. most systems sit idle 99% of their life. which in that case means they sit at low power state when setup correctly, thus using the same amount of power as a non overclocked system.

Anymore, out of habit. I don't even think about it. When I get a new setup, I hit the message boards to get the info I need to OC the platform. Though, I am happy with a mild OC these days. I don't go to the lengths I used to. I remember buying a gold fingers device and doing a volt mod on a slot A Athlon sporting an Alpha heat sink. I can't see going that far these days.

For me, it is to get the boost in performance out of my existing hardware. For almost 4 years I was using a board that would not allow CPU usage above a 95 Watt TDP. Now, I just purchased a board which let me overclock to my little heart content. :D

I honestly dont know why I do, I've never really "needed" to do it for anything I've done. Its just something I feel like is fun to try and do. Testing out new things and what not. My wife actually asked me this same questions the other night, kind of along the lines of why I needed new parts when my computer right now was playing everything easily. Had to tel her just because its fun dammit!

I know a couple guys that simply by parts around the forums on some sites, just to get them, test their capabilities and then resell them only a few days later, its almost become an addiction for them.
