Ok really, why do we need G.skill to make so many different kinds of ram per speed?

all 2x4gb setups...

4 sets @ 1333 with All the same settings just different heatspreaders

11 sets @ 1600 - 7 sets at cas9, 3 sets at cas 8 and 1 at cas 7.

seriously..Why!? If compared 5 sets before and cant see a thing different besides heatspreaders.
 
Many times the heatspreader is the only difference. With all of the various color schemes used on motherboards, some people really like their ram to complement, rather than stick out like a sore thumb. In addition, if you're water cooling, you would probably like large sinks on your ram, but if you're using a large tower air cooler, ram with a smaller profile might be best.

As for me, I really prefer to have the choices, than to be forced to choose between just one or two models.
 
Then..

A. Why not just name them the same thing but different colors?

B. why is there a (small) cost difference?
 
(A) It isn't the same product if the heat sinks are of different dimensions. That is why they use different product lines to differentiate them. It isn't just a different color, it is a different style of heat sink.

(B) 'Cause they want to. Actually, the prices vary so much, as one product will go on sale, etc. then the other, that its hard to say which one is really the more expensive product line. The end-user pricing is probably set more by the retailer, such as the egg, than it is GSkill. The pricing differences from GSkill to the reseller are going to be based on the contract prices for the individual ICs, which varies almost daily and results in changes to their cost of goods sold. This in turn will be passed on to the retailers and will impact what the egg will list it for, but after the initial pricing, the egg seems to use "demand" for a product to additionally tune their pricing more than any other vendor that I've ever noticed. Demand picks up and so does the price at the egg...just like clockwork. Others just seem to either follow the egg...or buck them with a sale.
