Why do threads "fall off" some sub-forums?

I realize this is minor, but I was wondering why some sub-forums let threads "fall off" sooner than others. Intel Processors/AMD Processors/Cases & Case Modding all do this. Is there a reason. and if not, can/could it be changed to be like all the other sub-forums?
