when 9800 se np is like a 9500 np...

do you guys think a 9800 se np that can't be soft modded to 9800 is worth 110??

horrible card....
the chances of soft modding arent too good..
id just go for a 9800pro from $230 on newegg.

ive never heard of a 9800se np, only 9800se 128bit, 9800se 256bit or a 9800se 256bit AIW, either of the 256bits are decent cards as standard, as with my p4 3.0 it could score 15.6k in 3dmark01 and if modded like mine did scored over 18k, even the 128bit modded is still a decent card (comparible to a 9500pro)

I have a 9800np it has 256bit interface 8 pipelines and is just a underclocked pro I can oc to 390x640

that oc is fully stable I cant do the one in my sig after idling too long??? does that mean its overheating? everything slows down

np <-> pro on the other cards is defined by lower clockspeed and slower memory chips ... sapphire makes a 9800se with 9800np clocks, the hercules aiw has 9800pro clock speeds .. both are called 9800se tho ..

what you should check is
memory bus bandwidth: 128bit/256bit (I shaped / L shaped memory)
memory speed: 2.8 ns square bga chips / 3.3 ns square bga chips / slow tsop with rectangular chips (stay away from these)
default clocks: 380/340 and 325/310 are common

soft modding the 9800se card is out of the question.... the architecture differences vary too much between this card and its non pro / pro brethren. is the se worth the money?... that depends on what kind of performance (or lack thereof) you are looking for.

No...don't be hypnotized by the fact that it says 9800 on it. That doesn't mean a damn thing. It is a 128-bit 4 pipe card. There are many other cards that are available for around $150 that will blow that card away.

if it says 9800 SE, its not a 256bit card. if it was, it wouldnt be 100 bucks. and since its not, unfortunately you wont get performance like a 9700 or 9800pro without liquid nitrogen cooling. thats not very economical imo.

some SE's are 128 bit and some are 256bit...
id say the 256bit is worth $110.

How many times do people have to be told that 9800se's come in 128bit and 256bit, all have 4 pipes as default! have a look here http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/faq.php

that completely depends on the non-pro you have. Mainly which type of memory it has on it.

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh there is no such thing as a 9800se non pro

you have 128bit 9800se
you have a 256bit 9800se
you have a 256bit 9800se aiw

PERIOD

most if not all 256 bits versions will/ or are clocked to pro levels, the 128bit are different as they dont use bga ram but tsop which as a rule wont clock for s.it, all have the r350core with 4 pipes enabled.
