Why do so many cases look like robots?

I havent looked at any cases in a while, but Im planning on upgrading soon and I was looking at various sites and I noticed that alot of cases look like those gundam robots that were popular for like an hour. Why is this?

I dont think you'll ever find an accurate answer to your question, but I have to say this: look at some of the cases companies put out...its like they were on crack while designing them. you'll always have wierd looking cases. fo'sho'.

Gundams and many other anime are extremely popular. Just because it's not mainstream doesn't mean there's not a huge following.

Having said that, I haven't seen any anime based cases in quite awhile.

Let's be perfectly honest as to why. Here's my take:

Alienware released cases that had an appearance similar to a head (that could be seen as somewhat robotic). Some cloner case manufacturer saw them and said 'I can sell cases like that' so they came up with the robot/transforer/gundham design. They sold a few, or a lot--who knows, so just about every other manufacturer jumped on the bandwagon and now we are inundated.

Another reason, IMHO, is that the 'case modding' craze took off and unfourtunately computing hobbies have always been rife with wannabees, so true to form the wannas, rather than modding their systems in amazing or creative ways, just bought 'pre-modded' cases that look like robots.

I think we all have to admit that if these cases hadn't been released and someone actually modded a system like that with their own creativity, it would be great; but when you buy it off the shelf, it's nothing but 'rice'

Yeah I would always rather see a beige box that someone put their own window in or painted than some bozo that drops 3k on a alienware bobble head. Make it yours!

IMHO there are alot of guys with lots of $$ little time or knowledge that want to look "kewl" when they go to Quakecon or something.

I think most case manufactures are going after the younger aged user (mainly kids...no offense). Most seasoned users/builders have learned such cases are eye candy only and really lack in the department of providing adequate to efficent cooling. Needless to say, most of these cases also don't have the mobo pullout tray that are very usefull to folks like myself who upgrade frequently.

Thats why I'm a proud owner of Kingwin's 424 black alu. case. It has all the essentials (mobo pullout tray, four 5.25 bays, two floppy bays, two 80mm front intake fans, one 80m rear exhaust fan, the coolest of them all the wire harness thingy that easily connects and disconnest my jumpers on the mobo, so I don't have to remove each jumper indivdually from the mobo each time). All for under a $100.00 bucks and it looks way better than any alien robotic looking case out there, simply gorgeous.
Coolermaster is the same way, their "Praetorian" case is another classical looking case but gorgeous as it is and has excellent cooling as well, for right around a $100.00 or so depending where you go.

Its the same reason they make the Ultra X Connect PSU. Its flashy crap that manufacturers can sell to people who don't know any better. "Yeah! My case is a big plastic gundam!" or "Yeah! I've got a FAKE Bang & Olufsen CD changer on the front of my TT!" Its all to sell to the ignorant masses.

Its not so much a problem that manufacturers make these assanine cases, its the fact that people actually want and buy them that concerns me.

Amen. When I was younger (and stupider ), I bought one of those ugly/cheap/loud/poorly cooled cases. In fact, it was so bad, that my xaser III is a massiveimprovement. Now, I'm saving for a Praetorian, which I'll be doing my first real mods on. (after practicing on my xaser ) I think the "ricer" look is in right now with the high school age, so these cases sell to younger kids who have no clue about computer building.
