Why do people oc opterons?

I got a 900MHz overclock out of mine, which is a "mid-range" overclock for these babies. Mine has a weak Core0 so even with a buttload of voltage speeds higher than 2800MHz are impossible for me.

well, opterons were out a long long long time ago, and at that time my son, they totally spanx0red anything else. now times have changed, and c2d is faster. so if you are starting from scratch, you probably want to consider a c2d. but those of us who don't want to buy new ram, motherboard and cpu, the opteron will last a while

i had a feeling this was it. went through the same delema, but since i've got agp, i think i'll go from 939 to c2d
