Why do oem's still keep adding discrete gpu's?

Dell, HP etc add gpu's to all their pc's, and it makes absolutely zero sense.

- if you're a gamer, you'll most likely need to upgrade to faster/newer gfx card
- for non-gamers, the integrated gpu is more than good enough for anything, for both Intel and AMD

I guess for some high end configs you're getting a good deal, but for most of the lineup they can save money, power and heat by not including it.
 
They want you to spend your money. That way it ends up in THEIR pocket, not anyone elses'.
 
Probably because it's cheaper than hiring help desk staff that only answer the phone call of why their system RAM shows 7.75GB instead of 8GB due to shared RAM usage.

That's a sarcastic guess, I'm really not sure.
 
Because companies like Dell and HP can get away with selling you a $100 part that they got in bulk for probably $50 give or take, then up sell the customer 2.5 times on the sticker price. They've been doing crap like this for decades and will continue to do it even if an iGPU became the equivalent of a GTX 680.
 
I've seen dell offer low end and midling video cards for a premium for sure but significantly better than integrated graphics. For that premium the customer gets customer support for everything in the case. The majority of computer users are happy to pay extra for that.
