Ok so my hp professional workstation xw8200... installed windows home server x86 on it... and it only saw 2x 3.2ghz cpus.... I rebooted and google got me to

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Xeon/Intel-Mid voltage Xeon 3.2 GHz - NE80546QG0882MM.html

which says hyperthreading..

so I rebooted, went into the bios and viola.... HT was disabled..
what benefit is there to disable a feature that Intel incorportated??????????/

just curious... I have it enabled and will leave it that way unless it is dragging the system down... but I always thought ht was better than no ht...

Thanks!

It seems to generate more heat and lower overclocks on the i7's. If you don't have software that can take advantage of the extra threads, you may not actually gain anything from turning it on. If you have software that can use all the cores, then by all means enable it.
