This poll is for those who bought an Eyefinity or Surround setup and since stopped using it or sold it.

Please do not vote if you still currently use Eyefinity / Surround

*edit*

This is a multiple choice poll !

There was more than one reason why I ditched Eyefinity, and I even forgot to mention the bezels!

I used it for a while, but my desk wasnt setup for the distance between me and the monitors. It was just too close so I went back to single, though I still will use the other two just not in eyefinity until i can change my desk setup.

Hopefully you can edit in an actual poll.

My thoughts:

#1 reason to move away from Eyefinity/Surround is lack of game support. Eyefinity launched in September 2009 and many games coming out today still require hacks to get running at triple-wide resolutions.

#2 reason is drivers. AMD has had years to get this right and are still failing IMO. nVidia Surround mode works pretty well but is limited to 3 displays in landscape.

The only problem with my setup is that I need to run games in Surround. Playing on a single screen at 1280x800 is just a bit too low resolution wise. That and I don't want to run down 1 of the bulbs and have the colors shift as a result.

I know you want to know why I gave it up, but.....
You'll have to pry it from my cold dead eyeballs. lol

Almost all of the above lol. I am long time AMD supporter,100% user and always will be, but they have failed here....

1. Bezels. I went from 3 x Dell U2311 displays to a U3011 and the only negligible loss was wow factor. The bezels were constantly pissing me off.

2. Game compatibility. FOV and distorted images in several games including AAA titles. PC gamers have it hard enough getting things to work. Having to research Widescreengaming, modify game files, run third party apps, and surf forums to get an acceptable FOV are not things I enjoy doing in my free time.

Edit... I should disclose that I frequently dream of a 3 x U3011 setup. The $$$$ and my past experience shouldn't justify it but /drool anyway.

Two reasons for me:

1) Found one of those nice cheap Korean 27" 2560x1440 displays (which I don't have space for 3 of them yet)

and

2) Games don't support it properly which is very irritating.

I can't edit the poll options or question.

1280x800 is a really small resolution! holy cow. that's quite the sacrifice to use your projectors!

Dang. I knew I was forgetting an obvious reason to ditch eyefinity!

I kept my 2209wa lcds in portrait most of the time when I was using Eyefinity. The narrow 1050 width of the center screen made my eyes cringe before I hit the 1.7" of bezel thickness on each side.

I also switched to a single Korean 2560x1440 LCD. I am very happy and not sorry at all, even though Borderlands 2 is my primary game now.

House was being sold so everything was downsized, including the desk. So with the large tower being on the desk, there was only room for a single monitor. :D

*Eyefinity user*

Just driver issues. Like the fact that once in a while when my PC comes out of sleep, all three monitors are being duplicated. Or the fact that I usually need to play whack-a-mole with settings in the CCC to enable Eyefinity again after that. 12.11 seems to have reduced this, however its a total pain in the ass when it still happens.

I still use it when I can. Game compatibility is a nightmare though. The GPU requirements are insane as well. I still can't max out Crysis 2 even with three GTX 680 4GB cards.

I play a game when I want to relax and have a little fun. Getting the games to work *properly* was not fun.

That, plus I ditched my Eyefinity setup when I was heavily into League of Legends and D3 was right around the corner. Borderlands 2 wasn't on my radar and I never really got into other FPS games.

Oh, woe is you. I feel so bad for you....

Obviously 1280x800 is for just one projector, which is why I never run just one screen anymore.

The benefits completely outweigh the resolution loss (compared to my old 3x ZR24W setup):
1) 120Hz
2) 3840x800 resolution doesn't require 3 or 4 graphics cards to maintain 120fps at decent quality settings
3) *no bezels*
4) 3D Vision Surround
5) No small amount of wow factor

I gave my Eyefinity up due to space, and lack of proper support in games.

But since I'm getting into Shogun 2 again, I might give it another go.

I used the matrox triplehead2go (way before eyefinity/surround existed) to play multimonitor gaming. After a year, I went back to a single larger screen due to a lot of games not being supported (in 2008). Maybe things have changed after eyefinity/surround has launched.
