Why can't post with 4:3 divider?

Any ideas why I can't set a 4:3 divider?

CPU is E6600, RAM is Corsair Value DDR2-667, 1GBx2, 5-5-5-15.
MB is DFI Infinity 975x/g.

I can only post with 533 or 667 dividers, but never with the 400 divider. No matter what OC, and even with no OC at all and BIOS defaults.

I'm on the latest 97TIDC01 bios from DFI's website, but this was also the case with previous bios versions.
I also tried moving the sticks between single and dual channel slots.

Are you trying to run your FSB at 400 or 333Mhz, or something different? And what RAM speeds are you trying with them?

It's value ram. I wouldn't expect it to run at anything other than what it's rated at.

I managed to OC the FSB from 266 till 360, using the 533 divider.
So I could reach a stable 3.24ghz from the E6600, and RAM was running at 721ghz (if I can recall accurately).

I'm pretty sure the RAM is holding back my OC, but I don't understand why I can use the 533 and 667 speeds, but never 400, even without any OC to the FSB.
(Also tried increasing RAM voltage from 1.9 to 2.2, but it didn't help)

It could just be that your RAM won't reach those speeds because it wasn't made for it. You could check if your FSB is holding you back by lowering the multiplier down to 8 or 7 then try and get the FSB up to 400 while keeping a 1:1 ratio with the RAM. Then the RAM will be running at DDR2-800 speeds, if it can get that far.

Don't quote me on this since I don't know too much about the 975x. But it could very well be because the downscaling 400 (3:4) is from a lower strap (intended for say 800strap), and in order to run it even at 266fsb would require more vmch if it's even possible.

For instance, of the 945p and p965 boards I've had, they have an option for 5/3, which would give 266fsb 889mhz ddr2 speed. That was from a lower strap, and iirc in a few of the boards was even denoted in the bios as such and that it may not work.

at 1:1, highest I could get the RAM was around 750. I'm gonna try to get hold of better RAM sticks and test with them.

Thanks guys for all the replies
