Why can't I search these forums?

I couldn't find a more appropriate place to post this message so I'm posting it here. (Why isn't there a forum for the web site in general?) Why do I always get the message "Sorry. The search function has been disabled by the administrator" when I click on search? I thought maybe this was a temporary problem but I've never been able to search these forums.
 
The search is disabled so you have to searched the old fashioned way. It's something about database load problems(?) I think... I dunno
BTW its been this way for a while

search is off so they can save space and bandwidth by having people post the same question 20 times a day.

i think that's called grit your teeth and go through page by page, post by post, or maybe you'll be lucky and someone will remember/bookmarked a thread relating to what your interested in

lock.....
 
We've had some major issues with the forum software and the database here. It seems when search is enabled it tends to cause some kind of corruption that makes the forums crash.

So the choice is either to have working forums with no search or have to deal with unwanted downtime.

I know Kyle is looking into upgrading both the software and the database and that will likely occur in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future. Until then, though, I don't see that search will be turned back on.

Sorry. Trust me, no one wants search back more than the mods/admins. :(
