Why can't i run Crossfire?

This probably sounds like a stupid question, but i have a MSI P6N 650i motherboard, and it supports SLi (16x, 8x) so why not crossfire, i would love to buy a second 3850, but it's just not worth it since i'd have so spend 150 more on an intel mobo and 150 on a new 3850 i might as well just upgrade to an 8800GT, is there anyway i could possible run crossfire on this mobo? hacked bios?

Nvidia doesn't want competitors video cards running in SLI on their boards. They can't stop single card operation or they loose their PCIe validation...but SLI and Crossfire are both proprietary and they can restrict usage any way they desire.

Same reason you can't run SLI on an AMD or Intel chipset board. Nothing in the hardware prevents this, btw, it's all in the drivers.
 
hacked drivers exist, but i've only seen them work on in reverse; allowing you to run sli on crossfire boards, but not crossfire on an sli board.
 
hehe i was gonna try that on my 650i with teo x1950gt's ... just got the 8800gt tho :p it rocks
