I have a 6800GT with the stuff in my sig ..and im OCing to 3.46 and i was wondering why i was only getting 4562 3d marks even when i OC to 395/1.08 it goes to 4867, is this right?..i was seeing alot of the GTs hitting 5000- 5500 and i was wondering why mine is so low. My drivers are the 66.93 should i upgrade them?..i heard some issues with anything higher. is coolbits even working?..is there something i need to do to enable the OCing?...its been a while since i been on a Nvidia card...anyone know any ideas?

ok thnx for responding...what version should i go with..the current from their site?...i got the 71.20s from guru3d a week ago..thoes do the job?

Your score at those clock could/should be a little higher then that.....try the 71.20's and let us know how it goes.

Even though you're still at a decent clock, you're running an older chipset with a 533MHz FSB P4...which will effect things, but not very dramatically in 3DMark05.

Try the drivers first and let us know.

For reference, these results were gathered with my 2.8C running at 3.5GHz with my GT at 400/1100.......try some of the drivers I have listed and see how things compare.

I would also make sure that your motherboard chipset drivers are up to date, just in case. That can make a big difference.

On that note, make sure/remember if you installed teh chipset drivers first. Even if you have them installed......installing the display and THEN chipset drivers can cause abnormally low scores from time to time, and it WOULD warrant your lower 3DMark runs.

Check your bios settings... Ive made huge gains on my benchmarks with simple bios settings. Do a search and you will find what settings to change.

hmm these are all great responses....makes me think....

Chipset drivers are up to date, im going to install the 71.20s and see how it goes...
and i cant really touch my bios settings..if i touch them...it will hang before the "verifying DMI pool......." i dont know why....could that have something to do?...and since im OCing..my FSB is at 600mhz and ive never really thought about upgrading my proc..always seems to be near the top of the charts when ever they do a mass CPU round up at THG....ill restart now and run 3d Mark and see how they do...

and anouther thing..i cant seem to OC anyhigher then 390/1.08 with Coolbits 2....is there something better..or at least can stop this "test Changes" thing..cause it wont even let me try and get over 395...there has to be a better program ( and simple as coolbits) that can do it...when i was on a older Nvidia card along time ago..collbits then was alot better because it didnt restrict your clock..

When I had my 6800GT I found that coolbits was WAY to conservative when it came to applying my clock speeds. Pick up Rivatuner.....it's a godsend in this scenario. You've gotta get into the power user window and there's a couple things that you have to change that will allow you to apply whatever clock you want in Rivatuner without having to test them.....and you can alter the max clock speed that you can apply on the slider.

Can't remember exactly where you have to go...but it shoudl say something in the nature of global overclocking - Nvidia.....and the "value" will be something fairly self explanitory and will/should have "clock test" in the name somewhere.

See if you can find what I'm talking about and ask me aftewards, that'll get you going.

In terms of the overclock itself....going too far beyond what coolbits will allow will eventually results in artifacts or lockups.....but when and where is tough to say. I've seen a LOT of 6800's not OC up to Ultra levels....and it's nothing to be bumbed out about.....just the way it goes, nothing is gauranteed. Find out what you can do with Rivatuner for clock speeds and then check out my guide on how to flash the cards BIOS to alter the GPU voltage.....which (if your temps aren't too bad to start with) should give you some extra headroom with your overclock.

Let me know how thigns go and I'll do my best to lend you a hand.

I would look for bios updates on your mobo.. You should be able to play with the bios settings with out having it hang.. adjusting AGP aperature size and fast writes should not cause a hang.. also disable video bios shadowing... stuff like that. Sounds like your mobo needs a bios update.

I still say that it'd be easier to do what you can with the drivers first and double check/try and remember if you installed your chipset drivers before the Forceware's.

It's oddly strange that you can't do ANYthing in your BIOS......a flash may or may not help....cus that's just fricken weird my friend. :p

Flashes can make huge changes in system performance and stability.. his mobo has the most updates ive ever seen for any motherboard. Just having the AGP aperature size set at its lowest value killed 500 points on my 3dmark05.

It is true that they can effect performance in more ways then we originally expect sometimes...and sometime for no reason at all. Hell, I was playing around one day with my DFI board and found that out of the 4 BIOS' I had for it, one of them turned out to be about 150 points faster in Aquamark3 for me....with all the same settings. :p

right after i posted the thing about me hanging i whent and got the latest bios...and..still hangs but i did one modification at a time un til i hang and i found out...that i cant disable my floppy drive......  ....anyways i got the new drivers on..and after i run 3dmark ill reply on here my scores...

Sounds good, I ain't goin' anywhere for a few minutes yet so I'll be waiting.

dunno how old your bios was but that thing had a good number of updates.. glad you found your hanging issue. Just tweaking for system performance can help your 3dmark scores.. I used to play with memory timings just to get my numbers up. Enabling 4 bank interleave when using two sticks of memory always added a good amount of memory performance and raised my 3dmark scores.

Interesting....CPU-Z has "Bank Interleave" greyed out for me.....is it just an AMD thing or what?

BTW...nice thread corn on the OCing the 6800GT...i think ill do it later this week..

Thx.....that was actually done quite awhile ago.....before I jumped ship for my XT-PE.....but it's nice to hear that I'm still able to help people out with it from time to time.

I'm always here to help, so make sure to shoot me any 6800 OC'ing questions you might ahve along the way. :)

ok i ran 3dmark again..bone stock..CPU 3.06 GT 350/1GZ..i know stock..evil word..but things were getting mucky...on new BIOS, new drivers..i got a score of 4687.....
seeing how i didnt really go up...im rather puzzled...and i have come to the thinking that my CPU in the cpu test just isnt cutting it...maybe just from seeing 1fps the hole time makes me think that way...but i cant really think of anything eles... anyone eles?

If you're getting 4600-4700 with that setup 100% stock now, you dont really have anything to worry about. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but as you said it, it makes it seem like you hit 4687 with the cpu at 3.06 and the GT at stock.....which is perfectly alright.

Thats possible..... I havent built an Intel systems since the P3. From what ive seen doing benchmarks it makes more of a difference when running mulitple sticks of memory.

yes..now im going to OC and see what i get..if i hit 5grand ill be happy...

Warrior said:

You shouldn't have any trouble hitting 5,000 if your stock everything score is just short of 4700.

I got 4,443 with my 6800nu maxed out 400/850 16 pipes. Very happy with its performance.. pretty much a GT's Stock performance.

Pretty close.....the ram is still about 150Mhz slower....but it doesnt hit performance THAT much. Even going from 1000Mhz up to 1325Mhz didnt gain me a LOT in most tests. Oh well. :p

Stock I got 3309.... overclocked 380/800 I got 3793... stock clock with 16 pipes I got 3710 .. and then overclocked 380/800 with 16 pipes I got 4,243. Almost 500 points in overclocking alone. I did a friend of mines system with a PNY and it didnt voerclock for crap and he barely got 3,800 overclocked and unlocked. This was on an A64 3200... I figured it would have been faster then my setup. I think the thread starter will get his 5000 mark no problem.

very nice..... so you got a 50mhz over stock gt's core, but 150mhz lower on memory...
i'd take the 50 on the core then the memory anyday :) but you lack half the memory hehe
probably won't notice teh difference between this card and a gt playing at 1280x960 :)

nice card you got there hehe

Best part is I found this 6800nu for 239.99 at a local store.. and that was the sale price.. no rebates. I drove through a bad storm an hour away to get it.. last one on the shelf!!!

hehe, silly me.....didnt even notice that he said 400Mhz and not 350MHz.....

Yeah, that'd be faster then a stock GT easily. :D

ok after putting around in the bios getting it at a very stable 3.5ghz and then OCed GT to 395/1.08 ( high as i can get from coolbits, rivatuner is next) i got a 3dmark of................................5276! woohoo im really happy now..and next im going to do is flash it now thnx to Corns great thread on flashing a GT!....ty all for the great advice too!

im using the drivers that came with my video card, which ones should i get? links would be very helpful since im pretty retarded
