Why are Monster Cables so expensive?

It's a local company (Livermore, CA), they are about 10 minutes from my Bay Area, CA house. I do business with them ALL the time, they are awesome. I go there in person and talk to them, but you can order online. Use coupon CAT2245 during checkout and you will save an additional 10%.

They have high quality cables for the fraction of the price. You can purchase large lengths for a really reasonable price. I cannot stress how good of a company this is, don't be afraid because they are a smaller company. I probably would have looked them over at first except they are local for me.

I second this vote...I have my comp 30 feet from my setup and have it connected, all with their cables...I'm not hi-def, but this is an awesome company with great prices...Check them out...

Hdmi = digital
Component = analog

There's no cable that i know of that would bridge the two, you would need a transcoder to accomplish something like that.

well the reason i ask is because monoprice has a component to dvi-i cable. i suppose i could go

my computer -> component to dvi cable -> hdmi converter -> tv

DVI-I connectors support both digital and analog signals. You can use DVI-I connectors and cables and pass only analog signals. (DVI-I supports both analog and digital; DVI-D is digital only; DVI-A is analog-only.)

HDMI does not support analog signals, so your plan is not going to work.

when money was no object I bought Monster cables for all My Home theater needs. now I just make them myself.

I wondered this myself. At CC they have some demo unit that supposedly compares monster cable sound to regular cable sound. It's all hype to me. I make my own audio and coax cables, because it's cheaper and I can make any type of adapter I need. I use all Neutrik connectors for audio, and Snap n Seal connectors for coax. I have become pretty proficient with a soldering iron :) My dad works for a telecommunications/sound company so I get connectors and cable pretty cheap.

Like several have stated. it's not going to work. Why aren't you getting a DVI to HDMI cable?

the reason i didn't want to do dvi to hdmi is because right now i have 2 monitors hooked up to my computer and if i wanted to watch a movie on my HDTV i'd have to unplug my second monitor then replug it in after i'm done watching the movie. it's kind of a hassle so i wanted to see if i could somehow use my component output from my 7800gtx. would i really see a big difference in quality between component and hdmi? also could i do 1920x1080 with component video? thanks for the help guys

If your TV is a CRT kind then no, not really. Component out to it would be best since it doesn't have to go through the whole "analog to digital back to analog" conversion since your TV is inherently an analog one with a digital connection.

It's is a plasma/LCD type TV then yeah you'll see a difference with a pure digital connection, it'll look much better since it doesn't have to go through the analog to digital conversion.

Since i'm not sure what gear you're using, do you think a DVI+HDMI switch would help you out?

Here's more info on that switch: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=569022
