Why am I using RAID0 again?

I just had a 2TB WD black go tits up on me in a RAID1 array I was using for storage. So I yanked it and it is going back on RMA.

As an afterthought, i decided to run the singular drive through HD Tune against my RAID0 arrays of 1TB WD Blacks - just to see if it was time to retire the arrays. The result was: Probably.

The 2TB single drive is *almost* as fast as the RAID0 1TB disks array.

Am I crazy, or is there just no point to having RAID0 on older disks anymore, and am better off going with a RAID 10 or 0+1 setup with my 4 1TB drives for redundancy/safety sake?

I'm running 2 x 2TB Blacks in RAID-0 and have been asking the same thing. I recently snagged a 3rd Black and now looking for a 4th. Going to go with RAID-10 for redundancy. I'm happy with the speed, just not liking the idea of dropping the entire RAID.

Single drive 2TB Black is already damn good performance. I also have a 2TB seagate barracuda that hits 165MBs but only has a 2yr warranty.

Well I wiped the second array, and Intel Rapid Storage wont let me mirror my original RAID 0 to create a RAID 0+1 array (and it would be so simple!)

Damn.

Hmm my 3TB starts out around 190MB/s getting to a little under 100MB/s near the end.. your RAID array benchmark looks like what my hard drive benchmarks do when I have CPUID HWMonitor running and try running HD Tune.

I had the same question with my Buffalo LinkStation 421e with 2x 4TB drives(HGST Ultrastar 7K4000) when I decided not to use RAID1 anymore to get more space. I decided to go with JBOD because if one drive fails I only lose half my data instead of all of it with RAID0.
