Why all the gimmicks?

Why truebright? Brightview? Brightashell? Supercontrast? Superduperbright?

Why not just up the contrast and brightness and refresh rate and stop using damned gimiicks?

noone wants to buy a regluar monitor, especially if the next one over has in big red letters ULTRASUPERDUPERBRIGHTER on it. so that is why they all have the ultra super duper brightness features.

Trust me, they're upping the contrast as much as they can. Its hard work to try to get decent dark greys out of LCD technology. We have these gimmicky names for hardware-driven backlights that try to get around the problem in less-than-ideal ways, such as "on-the-fly" backlight ambience adjustment.
