Why 600's are cheaper?

I was wondering why Intel Pentium 4 600 series CPUs are sometimes cheaper than or their 500 series counterparts? 600's have more L2 cache, and 64bit compatible, too. What's the deal with this pricing???
 
The 600 series are probably enjoying greater benefits from economies of scale, as the 500 series is phased out.

Let's clear up a few things, though. The 5x1 model numbers are as 64-bit capable as the 600 series. The doubled L2 cache of the 600 series is offset by increased cache latency and cache misses. In effect this puts the 600 series roughly on par with the 500 series, clock for clock.
