i used to have a ubuntu server with 5 1.5TB drives in raid5.
i can recommend that if you take the linux mdadm raid route, that you know what commands to type in
should a drive fail/need to be replaced. i didnt know them correctly so i lost everything on that array.
on a side note, the performance was great until i blew the array up. webmin can help setup things like smb/nfs/ftp to make your life a bit easier.
