Hello:
I have an Asus P5QL-EM mobo with 6 SATA (and 1 eSata) ports.

Since I have run out of SATA ports I would like to find an affordable (< $100) controller. This is for WHS V1.

My mobo has the following empty slots 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 , 2 x PCIe x1, 1 x PCI.

I am open to multiple cards if practical (ie 2x 2ports).

Also I do not have a specifec number of Sata ports I need, but the more the merrier I guess, but I am hoping for 4 or more if possible, but will live with less if for this price and good reliability is not possible.

I would like to have SMART functionality if possible.

Priorities: 1 - Quality\Reliability, 2 - Performance, 3 - Number of ports.

Thanks for any help.

Not sure on SMART, but many of us are using the Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 in our setups. They are PCI-X but will fit in a PCI slot if your motherboard has the physical space behind the PCI slot for it to overhang (looks like yours is fine by the pics). They slower than the 133mhz in full PCI-X mode, but you still won't ever max out the bandwith at the lower speed.

That is definately a good option, but to be honest, I am not crazy about using PCI-X on PCI and have it potentially not fit my mobo or touch components on the mobo.

How about this syba 4 port pcie?

Or you could just get the PCI-e version, the AOC-SASLP-MV8, for around the same price. You will need a couple sets of breakout cables though...
