I did it yesterday via Steam...I would like to unlock it sooooooooooooo bad :D

Chances are even if it was "unlocked" it still wouldn't run.

I would not run as they said the preload would contain all the textures, models and sound effects that would definately not change but alot of the program code that could still change is not there.

Might be able to patch it together using the leak though if you were creative.

Its been improved pretty considerably.

It has GREATLY improved since launch IMO. Havnt had a problem recently

I pre-loaded it, and was playing CS:S Beta until my video card broke. Now I am back to older games.

You wouldn't be able to play, there's no code, just models and textures and whatnot.

then maybe i'll have to check it out.

EDIT: just rememberred that my cd-key i getting used by someone else :(. mayb i'll get steam eventually by buying and using half life 2 and its serial key?

i still haven't been able to get it, everytime i try it says the servers are too busy

but i'll keep tryin...

i got it yesterday morning.

1,068,909KB of non-gaming goodness.

How does it feel knowing that you're SO CLOSE to what we saw in the demo trailers? :p

The pre-load just contains enviornment files like M1dknight said. If you got the leaked executable and its required files you might be able to get it to work, I still need to pre-load it but has anyone searched for the files it downloaded? I thought they were just encrypted files that cant be used until valve has you downoad the rest.

*sigh* if you read my post you would know the truth. i looked through it. only materials. no .vmf's no sound files. even if you could decrypt it, all you would have is a bunch of textures and material files defining things like wood.

I got the pre-load and at about 500kb/s too steady, Steam really impressed me.

It's improved a lot since they hired the guy who wrote bit torrent to re-write it for 'em, I kind of expected it to be better. ;)

Didn't bother with preload. I'm going to preorder collectors edition as soon as they announec what it comes with

Ok thanks for looking into it.

Maybe you can order the collectors edition over steam and it will use the preloaded material?

I recieved it with no issues. I have never had a problem with steam. I have a 4mb feed so maybe thats why. It took less than 40 minutes to download. I think it would have been faster but i left it unattended and came back and it was just hovering at 30% so i hit pause and resume and it took off like a rabit again.

Well you guys that pre-loaded it might be able to play on monday, that's when it goes gold.

That would be delightful since I am still on vacation then. It will be gaming heaven

That was a hoax. Someone "hacked" Gabe's account, his password was gaben, at HL2 Fallout Forums and posted that statement. I have a suspicion Gabe used the same password for his e-mail which resulted in the beta leak. You'd think he had learned his lesson.

*Shakes head in disbelief*

How much more fucking stupid can this guy get? HL2 has to be the most fucked up release in the history of gaming. I vote for Carmack to buy Valve.

They can leak the beta they can leak the script why not leak the fucking game already!

I've never bothered with steam....what exactly is a "pre-load"? I'm guessing you download the game and then pay to unlock it when it's released? I format far too often to mess with that unless they allow you burn it..

you can burn the files easy, they are just the .gcf files that sit in your steamapps folder.
