Who has the most storage on a single system? (please post specs & pics if you got 'em)

I'll start with my measley 0.66TB rig. 2x160GB, 2x120GB, and 1x60GB
workstation02.jpg

2 x 120 (RAID0)
2 x 200
1 x 160
1 x 160 external

960GB total

2 x 200 sata arriving soon.

1.36TB once I receive those.

Can't compete with those single systems. :(

My HDDs are spread over a couple of arrays.

Currently...

Main server has 91GB spread over 2 RAID 5 arrays. (10x Atlas IV 9.1GB U160 drives)

Storage array 1 (Anova RMS4D) has 293GB in one RAID 5 array. (8x Ultrastar 36.7GB U160 drives)

Storage array 2 (Sun D1000) in the works, has 330GB to be a RAID 5 array. (9x Ultrastar 36.7GB U160 drives, awaiting 3 more)

Storage array 3 (Sun A1000) in the works, so I'm not sure what I'll be able to afford for it...

Main Computer 1x 80GB WD SE and 4x Maxtor 80GB firewire drives.

Current Total: 1.114TB
Future Total: 1.224TB (plus whatever makes the A1000)

So, not too much in individual boxes, but when they're put together it's not too bad. ;)

The question is not who's got the most.. the question is, what's being stored? (hahahahaaaa)

The most I ever had was 280gb.... down to 200 now (160+40).

I just put together a "disk to tape" server for my work, which involved throwing a bunch of 300GB drives and a 3Ware controller in a Dell case.
1.8Tb after RAID 5/hot spare.

Awesome! What kind of 3W controller are you using? Any pics?

Workstation : 0.3TB

- Dually Xeon 2.4
80GB IBM - os
2*160GB Samsung - RAID1 - data
2*60GB IBM - data

Fileserver : 0.48TB

- Dually AXP 1800+
36GB Raptor - os
4*160GB - RAID5 - data

and another 20 or so harddisks ... mostly SCSI ... i'll post some pics soon ;)

most i used was ~500gig

AllHDs.jpg

btw, everything there but the case and the monitor is for sale on the FS board in case you guys are interested ;)

I feel like a lightweight.

160 GB (WD1600JB - This drive rocks) in current machine
160 GB over two drives (120 + 40) in my older comp

1 question, are these systems will all that storage used as servers or somehting?

i dont see how u can have THAT much data on a regular system...

Ambit, what's the noise like? I bet it's music to the ears

Also, what kind of power supply does it take to run all those?

Benny Blanco:
Not that bad actually. There's the small HSF, the 120mm in back and 80's on the drive bays. It's sitting in a server room now, so i'll never hear it again.
The drives are all 5400rpm, so the spin up isn't too bad, it's a 550W PC Power and Cooling.

ST|FFY:
This server is running ArcServe and backing up 35 other servers to it at night, then spits the data onto tape during the day. He's only this massive so that we can hold about a weeks worth of data on the disks without going to tape to do a restore. Between this and Volume Shadow Copy, it saves us hours when someone needs something back.

Can we say video on demand?? ;)

I've got all my DVDs ripped to HDD and streamable across my network. That way, any TV can access all my DVDs via an HTPC.

I've also got my MP3s stored on them as well.

You need a lot of HDD space for ripped DVDs. Even after some compression with DVD Shrink, they're still around 4.5 gigs each.

My new MSI K7D Master-L dually :)

2*1800+ XP modded to MP (second SLK800 is already on the way ;) )
2*256MB PC333
Asus GF2GTS -> will be replaced with FX5800@Ultra
RAIDCore 4852 Controller
4*160GB Hitachi 7K250 (Data)
36GB Raptor for the OS
USB 2.0 Controller
Adaptec U-SCSI Controller for external SCSI CD-ROM Tower

Hey Anarchy, where did you get those mounting brackets for those HDDs?? I've been looking for something just like that, but they're a little hard to find, at least at semi-reasonable prices. :p

I have em from eBay ... paid bout 20$ for one .... but i'm from germany so i dunno where you can get some

But Yeong Yang has something similar - uses 3 CD-ROM bays and you can mount 5 HDDs inside - cooled with a 92mm fan

if you want to use the [IMG} tag, you need to host your own -Ice Czar
sorry about that. fixed it.

The harddrives are positioned like that but aren't hot swap and have to be installed with the cage removed ... it's just a simple and cheap way to have more HDDs in the comp :)

That image shows the hot-swap unit, here are the specs on it from the site,

* High speed up to 160MB/sec.
* Standard 3 x 5.25" drive space
* 5-slot SCA 2 hot plug backplane design
* Rugged steel construction
* Fan failure/overheat detecting design
* Effective airflow ventilation design

I can't find the non hot-swap IDE one, which I would like to get for my system. Do you have any links to vendors that have it?

I have no problem with the fact that you are German. I believe all nationalities should be exposed to computers.

KingPariah, where are you that you're getting 1 Exabyte??

edit: Never mind, saw your new thread. Don't know what could cause that problem though.
