Dual-core's a coming! I can't wait. I might have to start with a Pentium D @ 2.8 since they will be the cheapest. For us folders, that is the equivalent of ~5.7Ghz (since the 2nd core doesn't have to deal with the OS, it's like getting an extra 100Mhz for free!) I could add a couple of these beasts for <$1000! They will replace my and my wife's computers, then one of the old computers will be a file-server and one may be just for work. We'll see!

Not dual core, I'm getting a dual proc though, so not exactly sadness, but something different. Perhaps empty-wallet. :( :D

Now just gotta find a good mobo for them.

I'll give dual core a go for folding boxes, but only once the prices have come down a bit. And once the mobo manufacturers get their BIOS updates all squared away.

Yes - Empty Wallet.

I am going to the AMD tech tour so that is siphoning off money that would have gone to dual core, so purchase of my first dual core may be a little bit, but I will have a dual proc to keep me happy while I am waiting.

Since my primary rig is 4 years old I think I'm due the upgrade this year. I think I'm going to go for the 1MB + 1MB cache configuration. Should send my head spinning in comparison to my 1200MHz Thunderbird. :(

I plan on going the AMD X2 route when they chips get into wide release and there is a little more info and specs out there. It's too bad that their price point is amost prohibatively high though. I guess I'll just have to hit it big in Vegas! :D

Comparing to somewhat similar 64's the price isnt that bad..
considering its kinda a 2 fer...

im still dreaming of an 8x MB with 8x 64x2's

Imagine the WU's that thing would crank out.

No. Have money but have to start saving to visit a few universities for grad school next year. :(

Maybe if someone in the [H]orde feels charitable enough for my upcoming 20th birthday. :D

but you would still be limited to 8 instances of FAH on a single machine, correct? So you would only have to go for the 4x mobo

I would choose the option that I am 'waiting for dual core to get cheaper and mature' if it were available.

The AMD solution is just too expensive right now, and I don't really like how the Intel ones works, so my hope is that in a year or so AMD comes out with the lower end dual core chips and I can buy a shuttle system w/ dual core.

I'm getting a Dell 380 (Dual core intel) this week or next for a 90 day burn-in. I'm interested in comparison with dually Xeons and need to lower power consumption and motherboard space at the same time.
