Over the past couple of years I have made quite a few jokes about Google slowly taking over the world. It seems that my humor may have accidentally been on the mark as a lot of companies are now fearing the ever expansive search engine giant.

From Madison Avenue to Hollywood, some of industry's most powerful entities are marshaling their forces to combat a company that has risen to the top of the business world in less than a decade.

I'm not afraid, yet. Google's informal corporate motto is "Don't be evil!" but we know everyone always starts out with the best of intentions.

"There was a time when Netscape could do no wrong and a time when AOL could do no wrong, and then Yahoo could do no wrong," she said. "Now Google can do no wrong, but that can change."

good point in the article

I've disliked Google for a long time now. I have always thought it funny that the same people who curse M$, Intel, etc. will sing praise to Google.

This sounds alot like the fears of AOL and the Roman Empire in the past...we all know how those turned out :p

Corporate giants rise to their greatness by their customers support, alienate them and you start a rapid decline. The bigger they get, the harder they fall. I hope Google understands this.

Once the founders own less than 50.1% of the voting stock, then I'll worry. Until then, I really really like Google.

i don't mind google.... i use their search engine (thanks to firefox) and gmail service everyday

I find nothing but junk when I try to search with Google.

I think in a year or 2 Google will become much more hated than Microsoft after they take over every social networking site and ad agency in the world.

i doubt that will happen. the most popular site by far, MySpace, is owned by News Corp. You might as well forget Google trying to buy it. Now for Facebook...thats a diff story. Or they could just make their own, which would be easier I guess.

They already have their own, it's called Orkut. But it is HEAVILY dominated by Brazillian users.

There was never a time where AOL could do no wrong.

I am glad that there's finally something that Hollywood is afraid of. Given that politicians are not on ``the people's'' side anymore, it's nice to see that we have a corporate champion now.

I'm wondering what googles next moves will be.

I have heard many refer to Google as The Borg. Just like MS/Hitler and Linux/Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

However, since I own a few shares of Google's stock, I will not oppose.
