Holy crap batman, I could easily sell 50+ of the 800 MHZ rigs to the flatheads I work with. 196 - 17" monitors, for a street of 50 bucks a pop, assuming only 100 actually work, nets 5 grand. you're killing me here. Not verified, cause I refuse to give checking account info.

31 Pallets. Not entirely sure I could stash that much stuff, undetected here in the ghetto. If I had a nuclear reactor in the basement, I might be able to power all functional rigs.

Ok. I have bids in on 4 of the linked auctions, damn don't tell my family. May have to hook up a bunch of folding bro's for the cost of shippng.

lemme know if you win anything :)

Yea. 31 pallets. thats insane. i could fit maybe 2 pallets in my car..
if i took all the seats out. including the drivers ;)

Another thing you might want to keep your ear to the ground on is Gov't surplus sales. Schools and stuff get first dibs, but if you play your cards right you can get some killer equipment on the super cheap. I know where I work is getting ready to cycle out a bunch of 2.2 P4's with a gig of ram each, and a pile of 19" LCD's.

I couldn't fit 1 pallet in my car, heck I'd be hard pressed to fit 2 pallets in my Step Dads van, and he expedites for a living, sorta. Absolute minimum room size for 31 pallets is 20'x18'. I don't have that kind of space without lot of help.

Well, I have free electricity, and a minivan.

If you win and need help, I'm always up for a [H]ard|trip, and I'd be happy to give some boxen a home.

You're not the only one. My wife was put on notice a few months ago to start stashing the money so I can bid insane amounts if I have to. The only bad thing is that they sell it by the pallet, and and its completely buyer beware.

maybe if you bump it lightly.. sometime before the auction. and a couple "fall"
and you think its best to just toss them.. just to save someone else the hastle..

too bad there is no trash can big enough at work.. just have to use the one.
um. at home ;)

Heh. Well there's always the slim chance a few would disappear. Once our stuff is rotated out, they pull the tags and its on the pallete to be sold. They quit keeping track of items once the tags are gone, so maybe a little creative asset disposal is in order.

Yeah let us know what if you win maybe we can help spread the pain around a little.

Hey you lost your high bid on the 31 pallets. ;)
Kidding :) I will try to do some more searching later today and find
more goodies. If i cant afford any of it I can at least help sort through
all the bulk lots of cables, rescucds and floppy drives to get some
good stuff for the team :)

Here is the site for the government liquidations.

http://www.govliquidation.com/

Here is some things to note on this site:
Look for the different ratings that the items are listed, it will be a type of code, example A+ would mean the item is in great condition and so forth.

99.9% of the time the hard drives in the computers have been removed or some memory has been also.

Just watch for these as you search the site.

hmm. not that i would know... but yes.

hard drives
video cards
memory
motherboards
cpu's
disk drives
everything but the case
....

typically when they surplus out old equipment. they have to send the case back
but it doesnt matter whats inside.. (i found this out as i was trying to get some
g4 cases for free.. but no luck)

I guess my employer is in the minority then. All our systems go out completely intact, just without an OS. We have to run one of those gov't wipe programs that passes all 0's a few times.

We have a requirement to pull hard drives before getting rid of them. (Federal)

but arent you in DOD or somethin like that Hito?

I grabbed a couple old western digitals a while back. they are like.. 6gb drives.
gosh i remeber when it was so cool when you could buy 1 gig hdds.

Anyone live near Norfolk, if I was to buy something there from Government Liquidators?

Well when I was a kid......I remember when *cough* 20 megabyte *cough* was huge!

You would think we'd have to pull ours as well (State Level) but no one seems to really care. But then again most of the people I work with just surf the 'net and wouldn't have anything useful on their PC anyhow.

hell i remeber when we got a floppy drive for the commodore.
so you didnt have to program stuff in everytime you wanted
to play a different game *sigh* fun times.

And now trying to use those computers just makes me mad,
b/c they are so slow.

the worst was going home from college (stanford) to a small
island in alaska to 56k modem connection

56k(yea right) -> Phone Company -> Satalite on ground
->sky sat -> mainland alaska sat -> more sats or ground
cable.

used to piss me off trying to even connect would take
a while.

//however i DO miss BBS's and TradeWars2002... it just isnt the same with unlimited
turn games and all the "helpers" you can use now//

I remember those days too. Nothing like having dual floppies either. One for OS one for program. Still have my first computer(it isn't the oldest I have just my first) the TRS-80(trash 80). Wonder if I could borg it ;)

yes...DOD is federal ;) just trying to be low-key.

heh i knew it was federal ;) but i know that you d00d'z have
special req's for computer stuff ;)

Im just in a museum (federal as well) but we have slighter
less restrictive measures :)

Almost all the stuff on the government liquidators site is DOD. They are just selling stuff from DRMO (Defense Reuitilization Management Office).

If someone near one of the pick up points (the pallets are usually pick up only) could get one of the pallets and ship a box or few to whoever is willing, it might work.

Got some very enlightening advice this evening, from a fellow co-worker. Seems there are quite a few places in our general area that hold bulk lot auctions. His brother hasn't worked a regular job in 7 years. He goes to these auctions, buys crap computers. Sometimes as low as 133MHz CPU's. Strips em down to vid, MB, CPU, RAM, and a HD. Loads em with hundreds of freely available games, maybe openoffice, and sells em for $100 bucks a pop. Folks with kids, no internet, no desire to get it, jump all over this stuff. He adds a 17" monitor for $50 more, or or a 15" monitor for $30 added. Sounds hairbrained, but the dude has made 6 figures every year, for the last 7 years. I'm in the wrong darned business.

Why is my co-worker not in this business as well (well he does do tech support moonlighting)? The Health insurance. His wife has already had a double mastectomy. She's in remission, but the fear is there. If she would just divorce him the state would pick up the MediCAID bill.

Gonna have to take a trip down to Klan Kountry, and see what he's got. Guess there are several computer boneyards, just north of Indianapolis.

There is quite a few computer recyclers up in Columbus, Ohio. I seemed to find the better of the deals up there than down here in Cincinnati.

Don't quote me on this one, but I do know there are six or more pc recyclers up in Columbus that sell items on pallets or parts.
