Well as u might have known some of u, i just built a new rig for my mom and i had difficulties with it the whole way thru. Now there r more. The computer was fine, but now it started restarting randomly, and then finally, it restarted and it never came back to windows, i turned it off and turned back on: same thing. Now im leaving power off for a few min to see if that helps but what could be problem? I got a AMD 2600 w/ asus a7n8x and 80gb WD 7200 HD and 512 mb ddr pc3200 ram and a radeon 7200.

Are any fans spinning?
Yea lol, i thought that was the problem at first but the fans are fine. I found out that it had come with the setting on 200 fsb for some reason and it was reading as 2.3 so tahts why. Its an athlon 2600 so it should read 2600. So that was causing my computer to heat up big time so i re-did it at 166 and took off the proc to reapply thermal grease and clean off the thermal pad (i put some AS-5 on it) so now its running about 8 deg cooler than b4

another thing to consider is:
the video card drivers.
Windows XP has a fubar-ed driver for the 7200 by default. You'll need to download the latest cats from ATi's site. The driver that comes stock with windows overclocks the 7200 a bit and it overheats after about 10-20 minutes. After a driver update my computer started runnign fine.

Mod Edit: quiksilverx181 - this is your THIRD thread in General [H]ardware on this subject. One thread per subject in the most appropriate forum is the rule. Thanks - B.B.S.
