What race?

Encoding video - P4
Games - 3000+ @2.2

There is really not definative answer to this question, you know....

I'd say #1 off the top of my head. XL seems to perform pretty close to the gt, unless say in doom3, and it's got 512mb more ram.

I agree with dariob...

but I have a question for u:

WTF IS THIS:

A64 2800+ 754
DFi LPUT 250GB
AGP8X 6800NU OC
512MB ADATA PC4000

Obviously this is the crappiest of all the setups... I mean how can it compare to a rig that's 400mhz faster in CPU and the vid card has more pipes/faster RAM... There is nothing in this setup that is even marginally better than any of the others...

There is only a comparison between number one and number three. The video cards will perform about the same depending upon the game so the extra RAM will help out number one's cause. So my pick is numero uno.

first comming from amd fan

if u want unbiased then

I agree, for gaming (what else is there?), the 1st setup would probably be best.

id hafta go with the number 3 rig, im definately a !!!!!! for 754(itll never die!!!) and for abit(who says the via chipset cant overclock??). im alittle bit shaky on the whole ati express chipset, where as the abit kv8-pro(which i think is the motherboard your talking about) is a tried and true motherboard.

sorry to burst ur bubble but 754 is dead end technology imo

I'd say it would be close between the first and third system. Socket 754 has its merits, but the 939 chip makes better sense for being future proof.

LOL looking at them again I would say the first system by a looong way, no doubt :)

Heres your solution:
Run 3dmark 01/03/05, SuperPI, Sandra, D3, HL2, Far Cry, and whatever else you want.
Overall, some systems will beat others in certain benchmarks, it depends what do define as a "race".
BTW, sys #2 prolly wont win anything, but itll wont finish last in everything either.

You guys seem to think that just cause a system is 939 it will kick all ass. That may be true on certain levels, but a 754 3000+ running at 2.2ghz will beat a 939 3000+ running at stock. The extra ram in system 1 will help with certain things, but overall 512mb is enough for the 754 to marginally take the first system in most intensive tasks such as games. Of course I cannot back any of this up with benches, it is just common sense to me.

For the record, I think the 1st rig would do well for games, but that P4 would also give it a run for it's money on gaming and do better in certain day-to-day functions.

Anyway, just a sidenote, I hate it when people use the phrase "Future Proof." Although we all know what it means, the words imply that whatever is "future proofed" will somehow never need to be replaced, which we all know is false. I think the better phrase would be that it has a "longer expected lifecycle." That seems to be more descriptive, and is certainly "future proof" :D

on if you talking real world gmaing or 3dmark score.... the one withthe 6800 gt will score higher in 3dmark03 and 05, but the x800 xl will play 85% of games better, i have an amd athlon 64 with 1gb of pc4000 at 2.45ghz and both cards, tried both... 6800gt scores better, but i really dont like the feel it has in games , chronicles of riddic kfor example, doesnt have a really low framerate, but it doesnt feel playable.

I guess you missed the thread showing the S754 Lancaster running 2GHz with 1.0V.

system 2 would kill all if it had 1gb of ram and was overclocked to speeds higher than mine at (im getting a 6800nu in a few days, and its unlockable to 16pipes according to the seller)

so yea...system 2 OCed

why else would you get a DFI board besides OCing and the cool (actually not really...i wouldve preferred blue/green) UV components?
