Who will you lean toward now?

When the price of the nvidia 6800 "pro" is 399

but the ati card might be 499

even if the performance lean a little bit towards ati...

who would you go for?

I would buy neither. I don't buy >$250 cards :D

I will wait for the Ti4200/FX5900XT or 9700np equivalent and go for the best performance/image quality. If they are not at least twice as fast as my overclocked 9700p, I will wait for the DirectX Next parts

Untill something else comes along that will do triple monitor surround gaming, with Matrox quality drivers and features, I'll stick with my trusty Parhelia.
I don't give a squat about 3dfartmarks, as long as the games I play run at an acceptable speed. My Parhelia does that, plus surround gaming...

I go for what I can afford and what is the better bang for my buck. Being a college student with bills kind of has it's limits as to what I can blow my money on :(

ill wait till the dust settles and all this paperweight is recycle to see real game #'s and pci express (if it has any increase) since im due for an upgrade (mobo/cpu/ram..blah blah)

still very satisfied with my 9800 pro

but who would you go for though..

if there are prices differences....

but performance is slightly in Ati's advantage??

ATI wheather they are slower or not;) As there image quality is bar none. and there drivers arnt full of every optimization nown to man :p
I will leave 3dwank scores to the Fans;)

R420 since that is what I have aimed for. Will keep that until I get convinced otherwise.

But if you look at the track record why pick a NV40 over a R420? We still don´t have anything to go by so I guess we have to do what we always have to do. Wait until they are on the market to get some glimpse of them.

I think it's safe to say that if their top end products perform close to the same, they will price them close to the same. Both nVidia and ATi know they are not in a vacuum, the only way one will cost a lot less than the other is if one gets seriously out-performed in which case the other will have a lower end card anyways. So asking the questiom if one is priced so and so is pointless since it is not going to happen. Image Quality and performance will be the deciding factors, since it going by history, it's safe to say that the pricing will be similar.

I prefer ATI. Better AA and AF quality and better 2D IQ, and they don't have a history of trying to screw people over... *cough* FX series *cough* 3DMark optimizations *cough*

Yeah, because ATI has never used optimizations

As far as I am concerned Nvidia have a much better history of providing quality products. To quote someone from another thread:

"I trusted them with the TNT, TNT2, Geforce, Geforce2, Geforce3 and Geforce4. One bad batch doesn't deter me from an otherwise phenominal record especially since they continue to squeeze performance out of them years after their release with driver updates."

I feel exactly the same way. The fact that they fucked up with the FX range is not a reason to hold a grudge against the company. If the NV40 outperforms the R420 then I wont hesitate in laying down my hard earned cash as soon as theyre available.

I will not be upgrading as soon as the cards ship. Judging from what we have seen I have a good feeling that Nvidia will own the $299 price mark. Since that is the maximum money I would spend on a video card I am going for the Geforce 6800.
Ofcourse this is pure speculation, but its fun.

The next revision of Direct X is allegedly coming with the new Windows OS (currently called Longhorn) with an expected release of very late 2005 possibly 2006, i'd expect another 2 DX9 parts out before then...

ATI has had one good series, ever. The 8500 is debatable but by the time the drivers were of any decency the GF4 was out and a better value. Personally, if I have a choice, and both perform similiar, I will always pick NVIDIA over ATI. At least until ATI decides to put out drivers worth a shit for Linux.

Almost exactly what I was going to post. Ever since my first Voodoo 2 card I have always waited several months after new tech is released to make a plunge and over the years I have saved a lot of money yet have always been able to run any game I want acceptably.

well, to be honest if the Nvidia card is 100 dollars cheaper and if Ati is indeed faster...by few frames I would get the Nvidia card simply because it is cheaper.... by 100.. :)
