VTX3D Announces the Radeon R9 290 X-Edition.
an overclocked reference cooler card.

ok this is a 290 NOT a 290X
company quote
By overclock setting, the R9 290 X-Edition clocks at 975 MHz core and 1250MHz (5.0Gbps) memory speed, performing the fastest and smoothest gaming experiences. In addition, the R9 290 X-Edition fully supports DirectX 11.2 and Windows 8.1 that enable all gamers to break the graphics performance of limitation and get the incredible experiences.

so I guess the 290X X will be out later lol

Never heard of them before

I know they sell cheaper, lower quality 7900 models. And they do a 7870XT model. They have poor coolers on their non reference models, but they do sell cheaper. That's what I know about them.

They are being snaky here calling the 290 an "x" edition IMO. All 290s and 290xs have reference coolers so far so really there is no difference between all the models so far.

Not sure where they're based, but from what I have heard they are part of the same organisation as graphics card makers Powercolor and Club3D. I saw their HD 6xxx and 7xxx series for sale in Aus, but in a limited amount of stores. They must focus on other markets, perhaps Asian ones? I'm not sure really..
Bit of a misleading name for a 290 isn't it lol. However "X edition" is what they have many of their video cards from different series over the years by the looks of it. They have a 6970 X edition and a 7970 X edition as well as others. Usually they have non-reference coolers on these X edition cards though, did you see a pic of this one? Reference cooler or not?
