Who made this keyboard?

Hi-

I'm not sure if this type of question would go here, or over in case mods but here goes...

I'm doing some research on doing a case mod for Doom 3- this mod would duplicate a UAC PC as seen in the game....

Of course I'd like to have a matching keyboard....and it seems to me that I recognize the keyboard in the game (see this screenshot) as being based on a real keyboard that was available at one time. However, I might be wrong in this, ID software may've just made up a generic keyboard for all I know...

I just wanted to see if anyone else agrees with that - that this is just a 'generic' keyboard that never existed in the real world (so I'd just have to mod up a keyboard to duplicate it), or if such a keyboard had been sold at one time, and someone at ID just took a pic of one and skinned it for the game...

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

looks like an IBM Model-M style keyboard (but with 2 extra keys between the LCTRL and LALT)

Does the M have a integrated mouse? I suspect the circular area in the upper right corner is a mouse control, something like a precursor to the 'rubber eraser' or touchpad that's common on keyboards nowadays....

beat me to it u bastard
:p

but thats okay i acdtually linked it where he can buy it with a good description.

IBM does make some with integrated mice, yes.

they're called Trackpoint keyboards, and have the mouse located between the g,h, and b keys (just like their laptops)

not an exact match, but an example can be found here: ebay link

are you looking for a keyboard with an integrated mouse?

its about the same size and the num lock, caps lock, and scroll locks are based on the same patterns as int he game...all it would nees would be some paint to amke the keys darker but the real one even resembles the same key color patterns.

Oh, I see...thanks for the pic. So maybe this version may've been based on a aftermarket version of the M keyboard, perhaps? One which they had offered a integrated mouse device?

I suppose it's possible; however I don't think the circle in the upper corner serves any real purpose. it's likely jsut a coffee mug stain or something :p

It is a very generic keyboard layout, from what I can see; I don't recall anything as far as pointing devices went in that game.

If you watch ebay enough you do occassionally see black model-m keystyle Trackpoint keyboards w/ coiled cords...but mostly it's the newer versions (w/ touchpads or the 3rd key for scrolling)

I personally have one like this, but in black.

i never use it...though...I got rid of the server i was to use it on...that, and tightVNC makes servers headless for me (no keyboard/mouse/monitor needed after initial setup)

Yes, that would be correct. That is, I'm making the assumption that the circle in the upper right corner of the keyboard is indeed some sort of mouse/pointing device.

Definitely look into the Trackpoint keyboards that have 3 mouse keys. the middle one (blue line) acts as mousewheel up and mouse wheel down (hold the key in, and scroll w/ the Trackpoint nipple).

if there's one thing I could change about the one I have, it'd be the lack of scroll key

OK, I'll check around on Ebay and see if I can find something close to a match.

Thanks for the help!

Except for the windows keys, this keytronic keyboard looks pretty much just like the IBM model M.
