Just curious who elses has this same cam. Maybe we can share some tips and things. :)

I want one too!

Ill just have to make do with my a80 though. Its not like I can take pics worth a damn anyways :-(

I had one on loan from my college, RIT, for two weeks, and was fairly impressed with the camera. I initially tried it out at the Photo Expo in New York where I was not at first impressed by the camera. After using it for two weeks though, its a nice high end consumer camera. Put a good lense on it, and no the 18-55mm lense is not a good lense, and it takes really nice pictures. For $1000 you really cant beat it. For my money and needs though, a 10D, D100, or E1 is what I'd prefer.

I just bought one, i love it...next on my list:

Ipod, so i can you know, have more storage in my pocket, yeah...thats it

550EX flash
50-500mm Sigma lens
monopod

Then i think i'll stop spending like a women with a stolen credit card.

for what it's worth, the 18-55 lens is decent, especially at the $100 price point. Compare that to the $700 you'd pay for a 17-40mm f/4L, and I would venture to say it's good ;)

I have been looking at the 100mm f2.8 EF Marco. I hate to shell out a $4-500, but that is life! :)

Why, I can give you a number of reasons. I prefer the metal body, more manual control and advanced options, it's heavier, much better viewfinder, larger frame buffer, two command dials, a PC sync terminal, and a better verticle grip.

That may be so, but it's also a prime lens.

Exactly.

Let me just throw in some more

Find us a wide-angle ZOOM in that price range that's better. You can't.

I can do without the extra features of the 10D. I just wanted a cam with the same picture quality that was very easy to use.

In the end that is why i went with the 300D, at this point in my photography i wouldnt realy need all those extra features, sometime down the road i will buy a new better cameara, and i suspect at that time it'll be better then the 10D.

As for the fixed lens, a fixed lens will give you better image quality, so dont flag it down for that. Not as flexible, i agree...but it's far from a bad lens.

You aren't understanding the point. If you didn't want the kit lens, you can buy just the body. Not everyone has a reason to go out and by a 50mm prime lens just because it's marginally better. You can get more versatility out of the 18-55mm zoom.

I can get a nice Canon or Sigma 75-300 and 70-300 respectively, and you can come along and spout off "well this 200mm prime is better" which it may be, but not for what I'm using it for. Not all primes are THAT great compared to really nice zoom lenses.

The kit lens (if you don't get a lemon) is actually a pretty decent lens. If you were doing photography professionally, then you would have a reason to buy the 50mm prime. I'm not going to just go out and buy a 50mm prime just to make the people on an internet forum happy.
It's not the lens that makes the picture...it's the photographer.

and id argue to say you can get alot more versatility from the 50mm prime becuase of its fast aperture

That fast aperature ain't going to help you much when you're stuck up against a wall and still can't get all of your subject in the frame.

isnt "wide angle" anything below 45mm...making 50mm a pretty standard lens.

Now your just making stuff up lol.

true, but you need to also account for the crop factor, which in reality makes the 50mm into a 80mm eq. focal length, which really isn't anywhere near wide angle for sure ;)
