i was able to get a gt very early on and was very satisfied with it so i havent been keeping up on whats going on with vid cards. i just got an ultra d (bought a cheap 6600gt to use temp) and need a pcie card fast for around $450 . cant wait for next gen. read some reviews of x850xt and it sounds pretty good but most of the reviews were from december and since then there may have been revision changes, drivers, firmware etc. is it still pretty much a better card than the ultra? thats assuming i can get an ultra for less than $480. thanx for input in advance.

i love my BFG, but i would say that right now the better $450 card would be the x850. since you won't have SLI (unless you're supar leet and bridge the resistor that nvidia sunk beneath the chipset substrate in order to prevent people from modding their Ultras to SLIs), it's the obvious choice right now.
 
not very interested in sli (use 2 monitors) . x850xt is obvious choice? thanx. newegg has one for less than $450. on my way. thanx again. have a nice day. oh, and thank you for reading my post. gesundheit. and please pass the potatoes.

i have an X850XT and i love it
i play everything on 1680x1050 (widescreen) with no problems at all.
i prefer ATI in general for their image quality, i'm not saying nvidia 6800 GT/Ultra r bad, but in general i c this card better than what nvidia has right now and it's faster.

now if u r looking to buy a card now and not buy one for the next 2 years i say go with the nvidia since it supports Pixel shader 3, not many games r pixel shader 3 supported but it's more future proof if u think u wont buy a card within 2 years

with current games that r out now none support PS3, the only game that would be released soon with PS3 is the new unreal engine, which i haven't heard of a release date that was announced anytime soon

so this is urs to decide, buy ATI if u r going to upgrade within 2 years, if not go with nvidia
 
Actually there are several games comming out fairly soon that support PS3.0. I know S.T.A.L.K.E.R. supports it, and there are a few other big titles but I cant't think of them right now. I say go with the X850XT even though I prefer nVIDIA. I assume that since you can't live wiht a 6600GT then you don't plan on keeping this card long so PS3.0 shouldn't be an issue anyways. Good luck getting a new card. *jelous*
