started reading the newegg reviews of z87 boards
the asus pro the gigabyte ud3 4 all didnt get as good reviews as this MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Socket LGA 1150 ATX Intel Mothe MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Socket LGA
I dont overclock or play games I surf do email facebook
I mostly image edit
is this an appropriate board
the reviews are stellar

THe gaming brand on the MSI is just that, pure marketing, it still is a Z87 motherboard. But if you are not overclocking or dont need any of the features of the Z87 chipset, then there are H85 and B85 chipsets that will cost a lot less and will end up doing the same.

for general use and considering you don't need "extras" then the G45 would be something that would work well for you(though might be more $ then you really need to get for not needing anything fancy) otherwise I would be saying Asus hands down as they have some wicked boards this time around, I myself will never use Gigabyte or Asrock, but MSI and Asus are "equal" choices in my books. That and that G45 can clock if you want it to.

you do image editing so there is a use in having more cores or capabilities, if you feel your current one is fine stick with it, if not, go fro an FX to get increase core count, if that would still hold back then their is core 5/i7 for quad and quad with HT or i7 6 core 12 threaded beasts :p

If you do image editing and want the best bang for your buck then an AMD FX 8 core cpu would be an excellent choice as long you can pay the power bill and don't have anything against AMD :D

I'm currently using a 3930K upgraded from a i5 750 and i7 920, what a world of difference once you start adding complex filters. Also having 64gb memory is pretty sweet.

Hi all, not to spam the forum too much i thought to post my question here:

If you have a Microcenter near you, I just bought an i5 4670k w/ Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboard for $404 out the door. Motherboard is incredible looking and it booted up first time. It has stellar reviews on Newegg also.

no microcenter :-(

I am running the MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming and have no complaints. For me I went with it for the red and black theme. I am running my 4770k stable at 4.5ghz at 1.25 volts on it, of course what you get is going to depend on the binning lottery.

Newegg reviews? A bunch of anonymous people with no credentials is not what I'd consider a reputable source. Try reading reading the reviews published by [H].

I have a UD4 It's built well but I will say having massive issues with my mouse and USB 3.0, granted it only happened with 1 of 4 mice. If I would have known my mionix would take a crap with usb 3.0 I would have gotten a board with usb 2.0 ports. So my vote goes for the MSI Z87-G45 it's a good value.
