AOpen K8T800 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 754 CPU, Model "AK86-L"

512 total ram. Cas latency will probably be 2.5-6-6-8

1024 ram at ~183 fsb with 2.5-6-6-8 timings
 
I wouldn't go with ither. I would go with a Pentium 4 3.0c Northwood which will overclock to 3.5-3.6Ghz and higher on an Gigabyte, Asus, Abit, or MSI motherboard. I'm running a 3.0c on a Gigabyte 8KNXP ATM and i'm getting flawless performance. I'm waiting to overclock till i order a new cooling setup.

If i had to choose between one of those two though i'd probably go with the A64 3000+ although there are definitely better motherboards to choose from.
 
I agree with burning grave. If you want to get an Intel system, go with ABIT/ASUS and get something in the P4 C series. The new prescott's just are not worth it. The AMD setup is fine though.

I would save some cash by getting a 2.4c instead of a 3.0c.

Its true you'll save some cash but your not likely to get 3.6Ghz out of the 2.4c's now. The 2.4c's now overclock around 3.2Ghz or less i believe. A 3.0c isn't ALOT more then a 2.4c and is worth the extra money. Processors are cheap compared to what people pay for RAM and Video Cards. Just a mid range video card about as much as a 3.0c.
 
Guys, MONEY. 3.0C with a good board and most importantly ram is WAY to high in cost. Only those two (unless you can recomend something better for the same cost).

~375 for mobo-ram-cpu is all.
 
Go for the 64bit unit, then you'll never look back and ask yourself why you subsituted speed for technology.

I've seen similar OC to 3.3-3.4 with a 2.4c; I have to admit though that I am not a fan of Intel's chips instead I perfer AMDs but for $162 P4 chip that can do 3.3ghz on stock cooling is pretty good.
But since I'm an AMD kind of guy I would suggest getting a Mobile 2400+ (or a Mobile 2500+ if you want to spend a little more cash ;)) and get a DFI Infinity /LanParty B or an Abit NF7-S board and save all that extra cash you would have spend on a P4 for a Socket 939 A64.
