I recently rebuilt my home server after getting a combo deal that included a Regor 250 and a Biostar A770E motherboard. The board does not have onboard graphics, so I had to stick one in.

Right now I am using an old PNY TNT2 M64 PCI card. The thing is passively cooled, but gets pretty hot. It has the older, full-size ICs. I have no idea how old it is, I got it for free still in a shrink-wrapped box about 3 years ago.

I have a Sapphire/ATI 3000-series Radeon PCIe I got for another machine a couple years ago that is collecting dust. I think I got it for about $30, it is passively cooled as well.

The Sapphire is far more horsepower than the server needs, but I am wondering if there would be more power savings for the more modern card. I've googled for info, but no luck so far. It would also be somewhat of a benefit as I can feel the system drag slightly when using an actual keyboard and display at the server--which I am doing now because I am still setting it up. After it's set up though, most of my usage is going to be through Remote Desktop.

It probably doesn't really matter a bit, but I have it open for another NIC and would prefer to make it as power-efficient as possible.
