You could probably buy a full OEM version for the same cost as a Retail Upgrade.

For gaming purposes, Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate will all give you exactly the same levels of performance so... Home Premium is the most cost effective way to get Windows 7. Agreed with the OEM recommendation as well, save a few additional bucks for another game, perhaps.

I bought Pro for the xp compatability mode. I went OEM because it was $100 cheaper than upgrading my XP or Vista copies, and I don't have to sacrifice my COA of the earlier OSes. With OEM you have to pick whether you want 32/64 bit though, as they don't come on the same disc

Also you can't move the OEM version to another "computer", whatever that means (mobo I guess?). You can probably do it a few times anyway, but technically you're not allowed to do it since the OEM version is tied to one "computer".

Home Premium is enough for 99% of users unless you absolutely need XP compatibility mode for whatever reason, or need to join a domain.
